Kyle T. Germann (1995 – 2021)
CLAVERACK—Sunday, August 29, 2021, Kyle Thomas Germann, loving husband, son, grandson, nephew, uncle and friend passed away at age 25.
He was born December 29, 1995 in Vallejo, CA, to Richard and Michelle (Traceski) Germann. After graduating from Taconic Hills High School in 2014, he went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business economics at SUNY Oneonta where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2017. He was employed at Williams Jones Wealth Management in New York City.
On May 22, 2021, he married his high school sweetheart Mikayla VanAlphen. They lived on Roosevelt Island in Manhattan with their beloved dog, Morti.
He had a lifelong passion for sports. He was widely considered by his peers to be a sports encyclopedia, and could speak expertly on many different aspects of various sports. He loved the NY Yankees above any team; he bled pinstripes. He also loved film, especially action franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. He was personable, friendly, the first to help with a joke, a shoulder to lean on or a hand up. He had a calming presence with his family, a vital sounding board for ideas and feelings. “When you talked to Kyle, you knew he cared, and was not just waiting for his turn to speak. Although we know he loved to hear himself speak.”
He is survived by: his wife, Mikayla; parents, Richie and Michelle Germann; sister, Alyssa Powell, her husband, Dillon; niece, Aurora; grandmother, Marilyn Traceski; nephews, Karson Andros-VanAlphen and Kaleb Hammel and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service was conducted Saturday, September 4 from Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Route 22, Copake. Interment followed in Copake Cemetery.

William Anglum (1937 – 2021)
HILLSDALE—It is with deep sadness, that the family of William “Bill” Anglum shares the news of his passing Sunday, August 29, after a brief illness.
He was born in Brooklyn, to Josephine and William Anglum.
He began his life of service to his country and community at the age of 17 when he joined the U.S. Army.
Following his military service, Mr. Anglum joined the NYPD in 1962 as a patrolman.
In 1965, he joined the department’s mounted patrol, proudly serving the city with his partner “Gannon.” He rose to the rank of sergeant before retiring from the force in 1985.
After retirement he relocated to Hillsdale, where he got involved in local politics. He served first as a town justice and later as town supervisor for the Town of Hillsdale.
He was predeceased by: his first wife, Alice; brothers, Robert and Frank Paul and sister, Barbara Anglum.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Darlene; daughters, Colleen (Garr) and her husband Richard, and Michelle (Palmer) and husband Paul. “PopPop” also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Melanie, Alissa and Joseph.
He is also survived by: his sister, Michelle Pasko; nieces and nephews, Jerry, Michael and Patricia Pasko, Robert and Donald Anglum and several great-nieces and -nephews.
He loved to work with his hands, be it fixing cars or furniture or showing off his creative side with his cartoons.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated September 3, 2021 at Our Lady of Hope, 8074 State Route 22, Copake Falls. The Reverend George Brennan officiated. Interment followed in the North Hillsdale Cemetery.

Birdia Johnson (1935 – 2021)
GHENT—Birdia Johnson, 86, of Hudson went home to the Lord Monday, August 30, 2021 in Ghent. Born February 23, 1935 in Moultrie, GA, she was the daughter of the late Sal and Lillabelle Richardson.
She worked for many years as a farm laborer throughout Columbia County. She was predeceased by her three daughters, Dorothy Johnson, Katie Johnson and Doris King. She was also predeceased by many brothers and sisters. She is survived by several grandchildren. Cremation was private. A Memorial Service is being planned and will be announced. John C. Dodds, Jr. (1942 – 2021)
GREAT BARRINGTON, MA—John C. Dodds, Jr., of Hillsdale went to be with the Lord September 2, 2021 at Fairview Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Dodds, son John Dodds and his wife Marian, and daughter, Penny Tudor, and her husband Chris. He leaves four grandchildren, Louisa, Nancy, Becca and Maggie.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Marie Dodds, and sister Ruthann Forfa.
While maintaining a lifelong career as a farmer in North Hillsdale, he also took on leadership roles in the Hillsdale Zoning Board, he was a member of the Hillsdale Fire Company and he volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
As a dairy farmer he received recognition for National Outstanding Young Farmer, Farm Credit Pilot Test Farm for Computer Program, and numerous milk quality awards.
He was an avid outdoorsman and some of his fondest memories were bear hunting on Long Lake and deer hunting on the farm.

Funeral services were held September 6, 2021 from the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22, Copake.

John F. Jaffarian (1935 – 2021)
VALATIE—John Francis Jaffarian, 86, of Valatie passed away September 3, 2021 at home with his family at his side.
He was born in Troy to Jack and Gertrude (Griffin) Jaffarian, June 26, 1935.
He graduated in 1953 from Troy High and went on to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Siena College and after a successful career in the insurance industry that brought him from NYS to Massachusetts, he retired in 1998 from Norfolk and Dedham Insurance Company where he was vice president.
Mr. Jaffarian was proud of his Armenian and Irish heritage and loved spending time with his family while entertaining them with his many stories about childhood escapades with cousins and friends on Lavin Court. He enjoyed all sports, especially when his children and grandchildren were competing, and never missed a game. He looked forward to his yearly vacation in Bar Harbor, ME, where he and his wife, Pat explored the carriage trails of Acadia National Park.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia (Cramer) Jaffarian; his daughter, Kathleen (Michael) O’Keefe; son, David (Lorna) Jaffarian; daughter, Colleen Desmond; sisters, Nancy (the late Ray) Miller, Katherine (Richard) Allen; grandchildren, Kieran O’Keefe, Colin (Felicia) O’Keefe, Clare O’Keefe, Nicole Desmond and Danny Desmond; many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family extends its gratitude to Jo McHugh for the care and support she provided Mr. Jaffarian over the past several years.
A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 7, noon at St. John the Baptist Church, 1025 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with Fr. Kevin Daly, OFM officiating. Daniel Gott (1942 – 2021)
COPAKE LAKE—Daniel Gott of Copake Lake passed away September 6, 2021.
Born April 6, 1942 in Albany, he was the son of Welcome and Elsie (Hess) Gott.
Mr. Gott was employed by Firestone National Bank, Akron, OH and Chatham Fitness Center. He was an active member of St Peter’s Presbyterian Church in Spencertown.
He is survived by: his brother, Jonathan (Lynn) Gott, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, David and Geoffrey Gott.

Ruth E. Wright (1922 – 2021)
LIVINGSTON—Ruth Evangeline Wright, 98, of Livingston passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones, August 22, 2021.
She was born to the late Daniel and Annie Thompson in Toronto, December 10, 1922. She married Stanley R. Wright, November 6, 1943 in their home in Livingston. He predeceased her in 1979.
She loved gardening. She cherished her time with her long-time friend, Roland Doyle. They loved playing cards with family or jumping on a bus to travel around the country with their friends. “Gram” loved entertaining, feeding her family and sharing laughs with cards and board games. She had a sweet heart for family and friends and a sweet tooth for chocolate. She was the matriarch of the family and if anyone could make peace with the family she could.
The family expresses its gratitude to Mrs. Wright’s three caregivers, Judy, Claudia and Susan, who through their tireless efforts made sure she was as comfortable she could be.
She was preceded in death by: her dear friend, Roland Doyle; her daughter, Carol Sestir; her brother, Daniel Thompson; her grandsons, Brett Hebert and James Lawrence and her niece, Nancy Thompson.
She is survived by: her four children, Daniel (Evelyn) Wright of VT, Janet (Steve) Bailey of TX, Marilyn (Jon) Hall of Livingston, Kenneth (Beth) Wright of Livingston, and son-in-law Jim Sestir of Ilion. Her spirit will remain alive within her 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Madaline H. DiCintio (1936 – 2021)
HUDSON—Madaline Helen DiCintio passed away peacefully at home August 23.
Born June 23, 1936 to Chris and Dorothy (Worth) DiCintio, she graduated from Hudson High School in 1954.
She was preceded in death by: her parents and her brother, Joseph (Hank) DiCintio. She is survived by: her sister, Judith Ann Bucci of Hudson; her niece, Temprace Marie DiCintio-Fleischmann (husband James) of Nassau; nephews, Chris Anthony DiCintio (fiancée Julie Dube-Batchelder) of Tupper Lake, A. Michael Bucci (wife Dawn Sherman) of Greenport, Robert J. Bucci (husband Chris Boneau) of New York City; grandnephews and a great-grandnephew and great grandniece.
Known to everyone as “Aunt Madaline”, she worked for 40 years as the bookkeeper and office manager for the Columbia County News Agency. She was a clerk at Bookland and served for many years as secretary to the Greenport Planning Board. Prior to her retirement at age 80, she served as an aide and after school attendant at Hudson Middle School.
A devout Catholic, she was an active member and a Eucharist Minister at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson. She was a tireless volunteer working with the Ladies Auxiliaries of both the Hudson Elk’s Club and the Greenport Fire Department.
She loved nothing more than the simple act of baking for her friends and family. Feeding people was her expression of love. She loved random acts of kindness and never expected anything in return.
She adored her family and was regarded as the family historian because of her incredible memory and knowledge of the “old days” in Hudson. Loved and respected by all who knew her, she was generous and always positive and upbeat with a kind word for everyone. A force of nature and goodness, she inspired her family in countless ways.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 28 at Holy Trinity St. Mary’s Parish in Hudson.

Elsie V. Kozel (1929 – 2021)
GHENT—Elsie V. Kozel, 92, of Ghent passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. She was lovingly referred to as ”Goggie” by her family and friends.
Born August 4, 1929 in NYC, she was the only child of the late Gustav and Anna (Carlson) Johnson of Germantown. She graduated from Germantown High School and then the Austin Beauty School in Albany. Upon graduating, she commuted by train to her workplace in Albany specializing in hair coloring.
On January 21, 1951, she married Frank Kozel of Ghent. They were married for 64 years until his death in 2015. After moving to Ghent to raise a family, she owned and operated Elsie’s Beauty Spot until she began working at Kozel’s Restaurant on a full-time basis. The couple worked together for more than 60 years building the business. She always greeted her customers and their families with a big smile and developed many great friendships over the years.
She loved to travel with Frank, her children and friends. She was also active in the community. Volunteering for the American Cancer Society, selling daffodils, creating the Buck Bar Campaign, and supported many of their community outreach programs.
Over the years, she and her family had many pets including dogs, cats, sheep, ducks, geese, rabbits, chickens, horses, and a donkey. She always treated them as part of her extended family. During her final years, her beloved dog Whizzy, was more like a son then a pet.
Her artistic endeavors included needlepoint and making stained glass but crocheting blankets was her passion. One year, she crocheted more than 50 afghan blankets.
She was very supportive of her children; their education and encouraged them to “participate.” She was active in the Fresh Air Fund, hosting numerous children as well as several foreign exchange students. She was elected to the Hudson City School District Board of Education and served as its president in 1972. An advocate for growth and development she was instrumental in the design and building of Hudson High School.
She would proudly say her greatest accomplishment was her family of five children and what they have become. She is survived by: daughter, Linda (Brian) O’Reilly; son, Edward “Gus” (Helen) Kozel; daughter, Joanne (Martin) Feinberg; son, David (Ellen) Kozel and daughter, Suzanne (James) Rajczi; grandchildren, Heidi Sansone, Nikolas (Rob) Kozel, Joshua (Erin) Kozel, Jordana Kozel, Jason Kozel, Randi Markle (Phil) Nazario, Geoffrey Feinberg, and great-grandchildren, Amya and Avery Nazario. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Patricia Cebry, several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Services were conducted September 1 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keller Funeral Home Funeral Home. Burial was in Viewmont Rural Cemetery in Germantown.

David A. Wheeler (1953 – 2021)
POUGHKEEPSIE—David A. Wheeler, 67, of Hudson passed away Friday, August 27 in Poughkeepsie.
Born December 15, 1953, he was the son of Arthur and Frances (Prestiagiacomo) Wheeler.
He worked for more than 34 years in the Chatham School District as a maintenance supervisor.
His vibrant personality and gentle manner had an impact on anyone he met. He was loved and respected by all the students and faculty at Chatham Schools.
He was always ready with his quick wit and one liners. He was a huge fan of baseball, Ham radio, NASCAR and car shows.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Stephanie; sons, David Wheeler (Rachael) and Michael Wheeler (Kalpana); his sister, Nancy (Ed) Ziemba, and a large extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Frances Wheeler.

Robert G. Bailly (1989 – 2021)
CLAVERACK—Robert G. Bailly, 32, of Craryville passed away August 29, 2021.
He was born in Hudson to Marylou Ryman and Robert J. Bailly. He was a graduate of Taconic Hills and Columbia-Greene Community College. He worked for RJB Property Management, Record Storage Solutions, and the Copake Country Club.
He was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Mary and Cecil Ryman, Robert F. Bailly and his uncles, Richard Cleary, Jr. and Edward Ryman.
He is survived by: his parents Marylou and Robert Bailly, sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Ciaran Haldane; niece, Sloane Haldane; his grandmother, Mabel Bailly; aunts, Judith Cleary, Maureen Bailly (Rob), Nancy Bailly (Tom) and Lea Ryman; his uncle, Michael Ryman (Lisa) and many cousins.
He enjoyed playing and coaching sports, and spent many hours playing golf. He was a fan of the NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by his family and friends, as well as countless others whose lives he touched. He will be remembered as always smiling, laughing and enjoying the people he loved. He was a friend to all and loved by many.

Edward G. Szafran (1945 – 2021)
GREENPORT—Edward G. Szafran, 76, of Greenport passed away peacefully in his home August 31, 2021.
Born in Mount Vernon, he was the son of the late Margaret and Edward Szafran, Sr.
He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Little Creek, VA, and spent time at sea traveling around the world. Following the service, he enjoyed a career as a diesel mechanic working for International Harvester in Albany and then Red Star Express Lines in Glenmont, from where he retired in 1996.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Jane of 46 years; daughters, Terri Horner (Gary Jr.) of King William, VA, Amy Genito (James) of Greenport; his beloved granddaughters, Rachel, Anya and Emma; a sister, Ann, brother-in-law, Vince; sisters-in-law, Joyce and Kay as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Szafran was a life-long volunteer fireman with Becraft Pumper Co. No. 2, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, time outdoors spent gardening, fishing, and working on cars. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Una L. Lawrence (1934 – 2021)
CLAVERACK—Una Louise “Chou” Lawrence joined her heavenly Lord, August 26, 2021 after a beautiful life with a loving family and wonderful friends.
She was born July 23, 1934 in St. Lawrence Hospital, New London, CT. Early in life, her family moved to Kingston, where she graduated from high school in 1952. During the summers, she worked at her father’s YMCA day camps on DeWitt Lake, where she met her husband, Lester Lawrence. She attended Wagner College and graduated in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
She and Lester married April 21, 1957 and she started her teaching career in Hurley, pausing teaching with the birth of her first son. She was later blessed with two more sons. In 1966, the family moved to Claverack and she later resumed her career at Greenport School—teaching first, second, third and fifth grades. She taught there for 17 years, retiring in 1995.
Mrs. Lawrence was an active member of the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack for more than 50 years. She participated in the Bazaar’s Yule Booth, Bible Study and the Handbell Choir. She was also a longtime member of the A.B. Shaw Fire Company Auxiliary, earning a 50-year pin in 2019. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons, Ben and Alex.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Louis and Una Schafer, and her husband Lester. She is survived by: her sons Lloyd, Tracy (May Chin), and George (Sandy) and her two grandsons.

Lena J. Sacco (1932 – 2021)
NEWPORT, RI—Lena Sacco, 89, born in Stottville and a long time resident of Hudson, passed away peacefully September 1 surrounded by family and friends in Newport, RI.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sam, Sr.; her son, Thomas; sister, Arlene Zahn; brother, Fred Andrews and granddaughter, Allison.
She is survived by: her son, Sam, Jr. (Ann-Marie) of Newport, RI; granddaughter, Libby; sisters-in-law, Dolly Sacco and Katherine Elia; brother-in-law, Herbert Zahn and several nieces and nephews.
She attended the Stottville and Hudson City School systems before working at Endicott Johnson Shoes for more than 30 years, including as store manager for several years, and at Ames Department Store as a department manager for more than 10 years.
She is fondly remembered as a supportive spouse and mother who lived her life with faith, commitment to her family, and a self-sufficient spirit. Arlene B. Snyder (1926 – 2021)
QUEENSBURY—Arlene B. Snyder, 95, of Philmont and most recently of The Glen in Queensbury passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home with her daughter, Tammy by her side, September 1, 2021.
She was born in Baldwinsville to Raymond and Leila Beebe, April 8, 1926.
She was employed by the Village of Philmont as a clerk and treasurer and Hudson City School District as a secretary. She was a member of the Claverack Reformed Church, Columbia Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Claverack Senior Citizens, Philmont Fire Auxiliary, a leader of the 4H club “busy belles,” and a volunteer at The Second Show in Hudson.
Her hands were never idle; always cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and creating her many beautiful quilts. She immensely enjoyed the last three years living at The Glen in Queensbury, where she made treasured friendships which were such a blessing during this final chapter of her life.
She was predeceased by: her husband of 43 years, Floyd W. Snyder, Jr., in 1995; her companion of 20 years, Robert Card in 2018 and her son-in-law, James Brown in 2019; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jeanne Beebe.
Left to cherish her memory are: her children, Wendy (Dr. William Blazak) Brown of Fort Pierce, FL, Tammy (Billy) Allen of Fort Edward, Bill (Lury) Snyder of Alexandria, VA; her six grandchildren, Lindsey (Derek) Twohig of Eliot, ME, Carleigh (Evan Culver) Warfield of Shrewsbury, VT, Emily (Leo) Chaplin of South Glens Falls, Jesse (Mandi Deluccy) Allen of Rosendale, Johnathan (Haley) Snyder of Baltimore, MD, Douglas (Kate) Snyder currently stationed at Fort Drum and her 8 great-grandchildren and 3 nephews.
Memorial visitation at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home will be held Saturday, September 11, from noon to 1 p.m. with a prayer service at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Mellenville Union Cemetery.
Emily Grace Bradway (1932 – 2021)
HAINES CITY, FL–Emily Grace Bradway formerly of Columbia County passed away August 13. She was born January 3, 1932 in Pittsfield, MA. She married William Bradway on June 10, 1950. After several years they moved to Copake, NY where they lived and worked on dairy farms.
Emily was an amazing woman who always put others before herself. The 10 children she raised became great adults because of this. She was a devoted mother and wife, but mostly a beloved grandmother. “Grams” house was the place to be and she adored having her grandchildren around her. Not surprisingly, after her kids were grown she went to work at Columbia children’s center looking after and enjoying the children for 20 years. She was known as grandma to everyone there. She loved her job, the setting and her coworkers.
Aside from knitting, crocheting and Swedish weaving, she loved any kind of crafting and was always up for any kind of adventure. After retiring to Florida she and her husband enjoyed a good easy life with their friends in Haines City.
She is survived by her 7 sons; William (Sheri), Chuck, Dan (Priscilla), Tom (Kris), Mike, Bob (Mary), Ed (Lisa) and 3 daughters; Marsha Church, Debbie (David) Westfall, and Deane (John) Klugo; 26 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, a daughter-in-law MaryBeth, and great grandson, Terrell Starr.
She will be forever loved and missed by her family and friends. But the many wonderful memories will be shared and passed down to future generations. She will be laid to rest with her husband Bill in the Florida National Cemetery. (PAID OBITUARY)
