Coeymans:

  • Hathaway & Shear received a boatload of coal the forepart of the week.
  • Oscar Austin, engineer for the Sutton & Suderley Brick Co., had a narrow escape from a serious injury last Sunday when his clothing became ignited from the backfire of one of the furnaces. He was quite badly burned about the face and hand before the fire was extinguished, but has been able to perform his duties as usual.
  • Now that the Deeper Hudson has been approved by the Army Board, Coeymans has hopes of becoming a seaport town. There are some excellent docking facilities here, which could be developed to excellent advantage.
  • Considerable blasting is being done by the contractors who are improving the State Road. There was quite a ledge of rock near Peter Mayone’s grocery store that had to be removed, and there is quite a bit to be removed near Uthe’s garage before the proper street level will be obtained.
  • The entered apprentice degree was conferred on one candidate at the regular communication of Onesquethau lodge, No. 804, F. & A.M., on Monday evening.

Ravena:

  • The agreement whereby prospective home builders can secure financial aid was adopted at the meeting of the Board of Trade on Tuesday night. The agreement will be signed by 40 citizens, making $20,000 available to loan on second mortgages.
  • Miss Katherine Hoose, who is attending the nurse’s school at the Albany Hospital, spent Easter with her parents.
  • A dance will be given in Community Hall on Wednesday, April 30. The Fort Orange Society Orchestra of Albany will furnish the music.
  • Nine were received into church membership at the Christian Church on Easter Sunday morning. The service was well attended and a splendid address was given by the pastor, and the choir sang appropriate selections. Mrs. Paul Court sang a soprano solo in the morning and Miss Jennie Fackler sang in the evening.
  • Special Easter music was rendered by the choir of the Methodist Church on Sunday. There was a good attendance at the services.

  • Horseback and bicycle riders are now in fashion.
  • Superintendent Leedings is having the village streets and ditches put in proper order.
  • Edward Miller has opened a restaurant and confectionary store formerly occupied by W.R. Craw.
  • Several excursions are already booked for Baeren Island, and the outlook for a lively season at this beautiful resort is very bright.
  • A defective flue caused the M.E. lecture room to expel smoke and gas in the interior of the building to such an extent that no service could be held Sunday eve.
