RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK — High school senior Uchenna Uba continued her winning ways at the state championships.
Uba is now the state champion in Division 2 Girls Discus.
The RCS senior competed at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association state championships at Cicero-North Syracuse High School on June 10 and 11. She came in first place in Division 2 Girls Discus, with a score of 132-10, and second place for Division 2 Girls Shot Put, with a score of 38-2.50.
Uba then went on to compete at the New York State Federation Championships and placed first in discus and seventh place in shot put.
RCS Board of Education President Edward Reville saluted Uba’s accomplishments at the state competition during the June 15 meeting of the board.
“I want to congratulate Uchenna Uba for placing first as New York state champion in discus. She was also Federation meet champion in discus. She was second in New York state for the shot put and seventh in the Federation for shot put,” Reville said. “Congratulations to her and for representing RCS at the state meet this past week.”
Uba’s accomplishments on the track were also honored this year by the RCS Athletic Department when she received the female Athlete of the Year award at a ceremony June 9.
She is no stranger to competition at the state level. In March, Uba took fifth place in the weight throw competition in the indoor track and field state championships, setting a new personal record in weight throw with a distance of 44 feet, 7 inches in the competition.
She was also the Section II champion in both weight toss and shot put in indoor track and field this year.
