Raymond J. Ponkos, Sr. (1931 – 2025)

STUYVESANT—Raymond J. Ponkos, Sr., 93, of Stuyvesant passed away February 2, 2025. Born April 1, 1931 in Hudson, he was the son of Thomas Ponkos and Anna Petro Ponkos.

“Ray” proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. After his service, he continued to work hard as a trackman, first with Conrail and later with Metro North, where he built a strong reputation.

An avid New York Yankees fan, he also had a passion for bowling, having achieved the rare accomplishment of a perfect 300 game.

He is survived by: his two sons, Raymond Ponkos, Jr. of Kinderhook and Randy Ponkos of Ghent, as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his siblings, Rudolph Ponkos, Thomas Ponkos, and Goldena Coleman.

At the family’s request, there will be no services at this time.

Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie.
