The annual Hudson Sankofa Black Arts and Cultural Festival was held on August 11 and 12. The parade and events at the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park on Saturday afternoon were highlights. The parade stepped off from the 7th Street Park and walked down Warren Street, featuring a group of stilt walkers made up of the Kaisokah Moko Jumbies of Brooklyn and young stilt walkers of the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. Sidewalk onlookers joined in the parade and danced to the music. Events at the gazebo in the Riverfront Park began with the introductions of the Sankofa Community Service Award winners, honoring community members who have been exemplary in a variety of roles around the community. Honorees were Calvin Lewis, Aiesha Watson, Jennifer Benn, Reverend Alan Williams, Stephanie Monseu and Dawedo Sanon. Photo by David Lee
