GREENPORT—Violanda Cordato of Greenport, age 87, passed away February 16, 2025.
She was born November 10, 1937 in Castlevetere sul Calore, Avellino Campania Italy, to Vincenzo Doto and Maria Grazie Delizio. She was the seventh of nine siblings. After finishing third grade, she became responsible for tending the family farm with her older sisters: Pipinella, Filomena, Antonietta, (Annelle, later of Hudson), Consolata, Vittoria and Adelina. After World War II, the family moved their farm to Pastina, a village of Toscana, near Pisa. She met and later married Patsy R. Cordato July 19, 1958 and moved to Hudson. She worked at jobs in various local industries and earned her citizenship within the decade. She had two boys and worked at keeping the home.
Beginning in the mid-1970s, she dedicated much of her time, with her husband, to supporting and providing hospitality for myriad missionaries and Christian ministers traveling through the area, making their home a hub for many to spread the gospel and encourage the saints. Simultaneously, they hosted a weekly prayer meeting in their home.
She was predeceased by her husband, Patsy Cordato. She is survived by: two brothers, Gerardo (and Teresa, deceased) Doto and Antonio (and Lina) Doto; two sons, Jerry (and Laurie) Cordato, and Mark (and Mary) Cordato; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service with reception following will be held Saturday, March 1 at Father’s Promise Fellowship, 3429 US-9 Valatie. All are welcome. Arrangements are with the Sacco Funeral Home, Greenport.
