ELIZAVILLE—Ryan Jay Meagher, 43, a lifelong area resident passed away unexpectedly February 19, 2025 at his home in Elizaville.
Born August 1, 1981 in Poughkeepsie, he graduated from Red Hook High School in 2001.
His dedication to his country was evident early on when he joined the United States Marine Corps in 2001. He served with distinction as a lance corporal, including a deployment to Kuwait during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His bravery and dedication to his fellow Marines were recognized with several medals, a testament to his courageous spirit and commitment to his country.
He went on to receive his associates degree in fire science at Schenectady College in 2016. He become a firefighter and served as a firefighter and EMT in East Glenville for a number of years.
He is survived by: his loving fiancée, Ashleigh Hogan of Elizaville; his dad, whom he affectionately called “Pops,” Orland Miller of Tivoli; his siblings, Brandi Powers of Savannah, GA, David (Sherice) Powers of Livingston, Mari Powers of Tivoli, Brandon (Mary) Powers of Germantown, Orlana (Bradley) Miller-Toombs of Pine Plains and Shannon Meagher of Pleasant Valley; his many nieces and nephews who adored him; in addition to extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his loving mother, Mary (Elderkin) Miller in 2020, the two shared a special bond. Everyone referred to him as “momma’s boy” and he was proud of that.
Friends and family join to honor his life at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, Friday, March 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. Military honors take place at 4:15 p.m.
