HUDSON—Philip E. Hazelton, 39, of Hudson passed away peacefully February 16, 2025 at his residence. He was born February 25, 1985 in Catskill, the son of the late George and Sharon (VanValkenburgh) Hazelton. He grew up in Philmont before his family moved to Hudson. He attended both Taconic Hills and Hudson High School before going to work at various jobs around the area. “Phil” loved all things automotive, especially lowered trucks, of which he had a few over the years. He enjoyed spending countless hours riding around Columbia County with friends or attending car shows. Many nights were spent with the Burger King parking lot crew. A New England Patriots fan, he was always sure to catch the game and was a staple at Applebee’s on Sunday. He was also a New York Yankee’s fan who enjoyed collecting baseball memorabilia and cards. He listened to country music and he especially enjoyed 90s country music. His positive attitude, sense of humor and infectious laugh will be missed by both his family and friends.
He is survived by: his sisters, Kimberley and Amy (Anthony); adoring niece and nephews, Fredrick “Freddie” Sackett, Jr., Shania “Nia” Sackett (Marty), and John “JJ” Wolfersteig, Jr.; a brother, Dane Canelli and several cousins. He had lots of friends that were like family, Kevin “Kezo”, Chris, Curtis, Anthony, Justin, Blayne, Brett, Rob H, Rob D, Ashley, Angel, Natasha just to name a few.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Jessie and Ann VanValkenburgh, George and Eva Hazelton.
“Though there is pain and sorrow in his passing, we take comfort in knowing that Phil is reunited with his parents and his beloved canine companion, Butch, that he missed so dearly.”
A celebration of his life is being planned and will be announced when finalized. Arrangements have been entrusted to his friend, Robert M. Donaghue, Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, Copake.
