VALATIE—Henry “Hank” Gustav Reimer, 90, of Valatie passed away February 24, 2025 in his home. He was born in Jamaica, Queens to Gustav and Bertha (Becker) Reimer, October 10, 1934. He attended Andrew Jackson High School and graduated in 1951. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force. In 1952, he started working for Western Electric as a lineman and later as an installer, while also working as a part-time deputy sheriff for the Duchess County Sheriff’s Office. On September 10, 1962, he began his dream job as a trooper with the New York State Police. Over the course of his 24-year career with the state police, he advanced through the ranks as an investigator, senior investigator and technical lieutenant, and received a Superintendent’s Commendation. After his retirement, he served two terms as the Town Justice for Union Vale in Dutchess County and also was employed as the deputy sergeant-at-arms of the State Senate until 2019. He enjoyed target shooting, bicycling, motorcycling, downhill skiing, the outdoors and wine. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Union Vale Fire Department, and was an emergency medical technician with the Union Vale Ambulance Corps, a member of the State Magistrates Association and a member of the Retired Troopers Association.

He is survived by; his wife, Rose Reimer of Valatie; his son, Russell Reimer of Voorheesville; his granddaughter, Nicole Reimer (Brian McArdle) of Albany; his stepsons, Richard (Darla) Skiermont, Michael (Elizabeth) Skiermont, and his nephews, Kevin (Cheryl) Brazee of New Franken, WI, and Glen (Walky) Aleksis of Garden City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Bertha Reimer; his sisters, Elizabeth Aleksis and Jane Brazee, and daughter-in-law, Natalie Reimer. A memorial service will be held at Hope Chapel, 14 Country Lane, East Greenbush, March 15, 2025 at 11 a.m. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie.
