GREAT BARRINGTON, MA—Gail Nancy Howes passed peacefully March 12, 2025 at Fairview Hospital, Great Barrington, MA. She was surrounded by her loving family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially the birds she lovingly fed each morning, a small ritual that reflected the kindness and care she shared with the world. She married the love of her life, Jack Howes, 52 years before his passing, and together they had six children.
She is survived by: her siblings, Marie Fisher (Richard), Donald Fitzpatrick (Jean) and Ruth Fitzpatrick; her children, Russell Howes (Cherie), Robin Howes (Holly), Mary Banker, Lucy Howes, and Polly Engel (James); her many grandchildren, Kendall (Woody) Eckstrom, Megan Howes, Malcom Howes, Julie Howes, Carter Engel, Emma Engel, Carlin Keegan and Patrick Keegan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Howes; son, Jack “W” Howes and her granddaughter, Emily Eckstrom. Services were held March 17 at St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church in Spencertown, with a reception following at the Spencertown Firehouse.
