CHATHAM—Chatham Fire Department members, federal, state and local elected officials, friends, family and guests gathered at the firehouse to celebrate the arrival of the department’s new 2016 Rosenbauer firetruck engine 58-22 and to dedicate it to Past Fire Chief John Howe, January 14.
The new truck has a 1,500 gallon/minute pump, carries 1,000 gallons of water and 20 gallons of class A foam.
Mr. Howe, a/k/a, “Flash Lightning,” is a 40-plus year member of the department and is a past Columbia County fire coordinator. He has responded to an estimated 2,200 emergency calls over the years; served several terms as department chief and on numerous truck committees.
He is historically the quickest responder, usually being the first to the station and is a respected department and community member.
