GALLATIN—Christine Vanderlan of the Hudson River Estuary Program and Cornell University will give a presentation to the Town Board about Municipal Policy Options at the Gallatin Town Hall, Tuesday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m.
It is hoped that many from the community will turnout. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
The Gallatin Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) is currently working on an NRCP (Natural Resource Conservation Plan) with consultant Jim Nordgren from JN Land Trust Services. Nine on the ground surveys have been completed across Gallatin in the past five months. The NRCP and the work being done to understand Gallatin’s expansive forests will help guide the Town Board when updating its land-use regulations to avoid future habitat loss and forest fragmentation.
Gallatin is 75% forest and an important link for animal movement in a much larger contiguous forest. Hence, the first part of the NRCP has been focused on the forest. The head of the Gallatin CAC, Eli Arnow has an advanced degree in environmental science and is knowledgeable about the forest.
