GREENPORT—State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Livingston arrested Sareese M. Stewart, 30, of Greenport for second degree manslaughter, a class C felony, October 6.
State Police responded to Ten Broeck Lane in Greenport with emergency medical service personnel, June 23, for an unresponsive child, who was later pronounced dead at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
The subsequent investigation in conjunction with the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office and the Columbia County Coroner’s Office determined Ms. Stewart allegedly recklessly caused the death of her 21-month-old son.
Ms. Stewart was ordered by the Columbia County Judge Jonathan Nichols to appear before the Columbia County Court October 8.
Germantown
State Police from the Livingston barracks began investigating a fatal accident at Taconic Biosciences, formerly Taconic Farms, 273 Hover Avenue, October 2 at 12:45 p.m.
Troopers were called to the scene of a serious accident along with Germantown firefighters and Northern Dutchess Paramedics, who were already on scene assisting the victim. An investigation revealed that Matthew T. Austin, 25, of Millbury, MA, was assisting his co-driver, both employees of BioTrans, a trucking company in Brockton, MA.
They were loading a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer at a Taconic Biosciences loading dock when, for unknown reasons, the tractor-trailer rolled backwards pinning Mr. Austin between the trailer and the loading dock.
Mr. Austin was airlifted to Albany Medical Center by LifeNet helicopter but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Albany Medical Center.
This investigation and the contributing factors remain ongoing. Firefighters were back in service at 1:54 p.m.
Ghent
James E. Goodman, 32, of the Bronx was stopped on the Taconic State Parkway in Ghent for traveling at 85 mph in a 55 mph zone by Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Louis Bray, September 27 at 1:35 p.m.
An investigation during the stop revealed that Mr. Goodwin allegedly did not possess a valid driver’s license, and that he allegedly had multiple suspensions and/or revocations.
He was subsequently arrested for first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony; unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and speeding over the state limit of 55, both traffic infractions.
Mr. Goodwin was also found to be a fugitive from justice. He was wanted on an active arrest warrant for a parole violation in Pennsylvania. He was arraigned before Justice Malcolm Smalley in Stockport Court. He was released on his own recognizance on the vehicle and traffic charges, and he was sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail on the parole warrant to await extradition to Pennsylvania.
Copake
Sheriff’s deputies were sent to a reported fight at a residence on County Route 7 in Copake, September 1 at about 8:33 p.m.
Following an investigation, Floyd R. Seymour, Jr., 31, address not given, was charged on an arrest warrant for third degree assault, second degree harassment and second degree criminal contempt by Deputy David Stevens, September 11 at 4:17 p.m. Mr. Seymour was arraigned in Copake Court before Justice Glenn Schermerhorm, and released on his own recognizance. He was directed to return to court at a later date.
•Susan M. Elliott, 54, of Philmont was charged with driving while intoxicated–first offense; refusal to take a breath test; parked on pavement; consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle and second degree obstructing governmental administration by Deputies Andrew Horst and Joshua Torchia, September 7 at about 11:20 p.m.
The deputies came upon a vehicle parked in the roadway on County Route 7A in Copake. They stopped to check the vehicle and subsequently arrested the operator, Ms. Elliott.
She was arraigned in Hillsdale Court before Justice Russ Immarigeon. She was released on her own recognizance and directed to appear in Copake Court at a later date.
Greenport
Jesse A. Brown, 38, of Stockport was charged with second degree criminal contempt by Deputies Thomas Merante and Kayla Beaumont, September 6 at 3:04 p.m.
During a traffic stop on Fairview Avenue, Greenport deputies found Mr. Brown to be the passenger in a vehicle that was operated by the protected party in an order of protection against him.
Mr. Brown was arraigned before Justice Barry Sack in Greenport Court, was released on his own recognizance and directed to return to court at a later date.
Hudson
Paul Kozlowski, Jr., 31, no address given, was charged with fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth degree criminal possession of marijuana, both class A misdemeanors, by Hudson Police, September 30.
On that date at 4:37 p.m., police received a transferred emergency call from Columbia County 911. A store clerk from the Green Street Deli at 67 Green Street, told police that a man and a woman were inside the store and stole merchandise.
Patrols went to the deli/convenience store, where the clerk told them that the two subjects had left the area after stealing “two pack bags” from the store.
The clerk gave descriptions of the suspects to police, who checked the area and found two people matching the descriptions walking in front of 615 State Street. The officer saw Mr. Kozlowski allegedly attempting to hide the stolen merchandise in the rear of 617 State Street.
In addition to the stolen store property, Mr. Kozlowski was found to allegedly possess 2.6 grams of cocaine, 93 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, scales, packing material and needles.
Mr. Kozlowski allegedly resisted arrest and a struggle ensued. Police apprehended him without injury and took him to the police station for processing. The woman suspect was identified, and the investigation continues.
Mr. Kozlowski was issued appearance tickets returnable in Hudson City Court at a later date.
