HUDSON–This year marks the 150th anniversary of the construction of the Hudson Athens Lighthouse. The first event in a season of celebration began on Saturday, June 1 with a boat parade that motored from Athens to the lighthouse and on to the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park where music was played and craft vendors, food and information tables were set up.

There is an urgency to the celebration as the foundation of this landmark in the river has deteriorated to the extent that it is reportedly a few years from collapsing. The Hudson Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society hopes to raise awareness and attract money to get the building stabilized.

On May 1, the National Trust for Historic Preservation designated the Hudson Athens Lighthouse among one of 11 most endangered historic places in the country.
