HUDSON–The Columbia County chapter of Indivisible held a rally on Sunday, March 16 to protest federal budget cuts. Headliner for the rally was Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado who urged the gathering to “get behind good leaders who have moral courage, and call truth to power.” He said, “We have to fight every single day, we have to show up every single day, and hold our elected officials accountable.”
Several in the audience shouted their dismay with the Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D) and his Senate colleague Kristen Gillibrand (D) who both signed the Republican budget bill in order to avoid a government shutdown. New York Assemblymember Didi Barrett (D-106) and state Senator Michelle Hinchey (D-41) both argued when speaking at the rally that in spite of the anger expressed with the U.S. Senators from New York, Democrats should not fight among themselves.
