CHATHAM–In late 2024, the Crandell Theatre, 48 Main Street, temporarily closed to begin a major renovation and restoration project. According the non-profit theater’s website, the building will be returned “to its original Spanish Renaissance splendor but the renovation will also bring several much-needed improvements, including new seating, remodeled and expanded bathrooms, a larger lobby and a new cafe, and state-of-the-art lighting, projection and sound.” The building will turn 100 next year. While construction takes place, the theater has hosted off-sight screenings at the Morris Memorial and PS21. For more information, go to crandelltheatre.org

Removal of the old marquee was finished on Friday, February 14.
On Tuesday, February 18, inside the theater were (l to r) Kylie Wyskochil and Chad Lindberg of Taconic Engineering, Crandell Executive Director Brian Leach, and Dale Kreski of Bast Hatfield Construction.
Mr. Kreski holds one of the original light fixtures that will be cleaned and reinstalled.
