HUDSON—The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Hudson and Greenport police will once again join with state law enforcement agencies in a special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday season, according to a press release from Columbia County STOP-DWI.
While people spend time traveling to celebrate the holiday with friends and family, law enforcement will take to the roads in an effort to stop impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives. The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts run from November 26 through 30. State Police, Sheriff’s Office and municipal law enforcement agencies throughout Columbia County and across the state will be out in force. Research shows that high visibility enforcement can reduce impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20%. Sobriety checkpoints play a key part in raising awareness about the problem.
The STOP-DWI Thanksgiving Crackdown is one of many statewide enforcement initiatives promoted by the New York State STOP-DWI Association and Columbia County STOP-DWI. Throughout the remainder of the year the STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign will also target the national holiday season in December.
SPs join with marines to spread holiday cheer
LIVINGSTON—State Police from Troop K will be joining forces with the United States Marine Corps to make this holiday season enjoyable for less fortunate children in the community.
Troop K is currently collecting new, unwrapped toys at all 18 stations throughout Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties. The drive concludes December 10.
On December 12, the U.S. Marine Corps will be at Troop K headquarters to collect the donated toys and distribute them to local children so they too can experience the joy of Christmas.
