CHATHAM–The Chatham Central School District Board of Education has three seats open for election in 2020. Candidates must be able to read and write, be a current resident of the district for at least one year, and be a qualified voter of the district–a citizen of the U.S.; at least 18 years of age.
Governor Cuomo has issued an executive order that rescheduled this year’s school elections to June 9. Based on new guidelines from the Governor’s Office, anyone interested in running for the board may self-nominate. The governor’s executive order waived the provision that required candidates to collect signatures on a candidate nominating petition. Candidates now must email or mail a letter of interest to the District Clerk. This letter must be received no later than 5 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2020. The letter must state the candidate’s interest to run for the board and include the candidate’s name and address.
District buildings are currently closed to visitors and operating at reduced staffing levels. To contact District Clerk Deborah Pottenburgh email Pottenburghd@chatham.k12.ny.us, phone at 518-392-1501, or mail to District Clerk, Chatham Central School District, 50 Woodbridge Ave, Chatham, NY 12037.
