HUDSON—James A. Carlucci, formerly second assistant district attorney, has been promoted to Columbia County first assistant district attorney. He fills the vacancy left by former First Assistant District Attorney David M. Costanzo’s imminent move to Greene County, according to a press release from District Attorney Paul Czajka.
Mr. Carlucci has been second assistant district attorney since 2012 and served as an assistant district attorney from March 2004 to August 2011. He was formerly a Kinderhook Town Justice and a Columbia County Conflict Defender. Mr. Carlucci practiced law in his own office in Hudson since 2001 and worked in Columbia, Ulster and Albany counties since being admitted to the Bar in 1990. As a law student, he was an intern for Mr. Czajka when he was a public defender.
In the release, the District Attorney thanked Mr. Costanzo for his many years of work as an assistant district attorney, complimented the quality of his work and his dedication and wished him well
Muller commended on advancement
PLEASANT VALLEY—New York State Police Troop K acknowledged and commended members on their recent promotions.
Among those recognized was Sergeant Frederick C. Muller, III, who entered the State Police basic school in October 1989. Sergeant Muller was promoted to sergeant in October 2006 and is currently stationed at the State Police barracks in Livingston. Effective November 20, Sergeant Muller was selected to serve SP Livingston as station commander. Sergeant Muller recently celebrated 25 years with the State Police, and was described by Major Robin H. Benziger as having an amazing willingness to lead.
Troopers spread holiday cheer
State Police members and civilian staff from Troop K collected more than 535 toys for the annual U.S. Marine Corps Toys-for-Tots campaign. Troopers joined forces with the Marines to collect new, unwrapped toys at all 18 stations throughout Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester counties. Last week the Marines picked up the donated toys for distribution to local less fortunate children for Christmas.
More troopers monitor roads this season
PLEASANT VALLEY—State Police from Troop K will have additional troopers on the roads this holiday season in an effort to crack down on drunk driving.
State Police will again participate in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign from now through January 1. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints along with more troopers on major highways during the campaign. Unmarked State Police patrol vehicles will also be on the roads.
In addition to the DWI checkpoints and patrols, troopers will be watching for distracted or impaired drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up and drivers violating the Move Over Law, which requires motorists to exercise extreme caution when passing emergency vehicles that are stopped in or on the side of the road.
During last year’s campaign, State Police issued more than 38,000 tickets. More than 630 people were charged with DWI, more than 11,000 drivers were ticketed for speeding and 1,500 drivers were caught for distracted driving.
