Man arrested for allegedly bilking unemployment

GREENPORT–Livingston State Police arrested Richard A. Wolfe Jr., 40, for grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony, and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, a class E felony, August 28. The charges resulted from an investigation conducted by the State Police and the state Department of Labor. Police say that Mr. Wolfe received over $19,000 in state Unemployment Insurance benefits between January of 2008 and June of 2010 to which he was not entitled. They also allege that during this time, Mr. Wolfe filed false information with the Department of Labor reporting that he was totally unemployed when in fact he was employed on a full-time basis. Arraigned in the Town of Greenport Court before Justice Robert Brenzel, Mr. Wolfe was sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bail bond. Mr Wolfe was ordered to re-appear in the Stockport Town Court Friday August 31.

*Patrick C. McPhilomy, 46, of Sasso Lane, Wingdale was arrested and charged with petit larceny and providing a false written statement by Columbia County Deputy Sheriff Joshua Oakes July 20, 2012 at 3 p.m.  Mr. McPhilomy allegedly stole a golf cart from a campground in the Town of Copake and also provided a deposition to deputy sheriffs allegedly knowing the information provided was untrue. Dutchess County Deputy Sheriff Steven Haire assisted in the investigation. Mr. McPhilomy was scheduled to appear in Copake Town Court August 6.

Drugs/alcohol

The following face drug or alcohol-related charges:

*Peter A. Murphy, 51, of Millerton was charged with driving while intoxicated by Livingston State Police July 23 at approximately 5:30 p.m. Troopers stopped Mr. Murphy for Failing to Keep Right on County Route 7 in the town of Copake.  Mr. Murphy was interviewed by Troopers at which time the odor of alcoholic beverage was detected. Field sobriety tests were administered that Mr. Murphy could not perform and he was taken into custody and transported to the Livingston barracks where he submitted to a breath test resulting in .10% BAC.  Mr. Murphy was issued tickets returnable in the town of Copake Justice Court.

*Dalton E. Sachs, 36, of Hillsdale was charged with Criminal Possession of Marihuana in the 5th Degree by Livingston State Police July 24. Troopers stopped his vehicle and, upon interviewing Mr. Sachs, detected the odor of marijuana. Troopers subsequently located over 29 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. Mr. Sachs was taken into custody and taken to the Livingston Barracks where he was issued an appearance ticket returnable in the town of Copake Justice Court.
