Fire school graduates announced

GREENPORT–The Columbia County Fire Coordinator’s office announces recent graduates of multiple fire schools held throughout the county.

Chatham Fire Department played host to the latest installment of fire fighter 1, with Melissa Eigenbrodt as lead instructor, Joe Laviano and Dave Shultis assisting. Graduates were: Karen Loeffler, Jozef Ortiz, Charles Sussman, Kendall Eckstrom, Andrew Smith, Karl Bower, Bulent Yener, Daniel VanAllen, Jonathan Prack, Matthew Cross,Geoffrey Kurtz, James Hogancamp, Zachary Bray, Cody Huyck, James Murphy Jr., Arnold Anderson Jr., Ryan O’Dowd, Emily Paulsen and Seth Loomis.  Stuyvesant Falls Fire Department sponsored a Courage To Be Safe training, with Gerald Paris instructing. Participants were: Ted Beck, Robert Bingman, William Blaauw, Chris Bortugno, Michael Bortugno, Mark Bruhmuller, Joseph Daniels, Michael Dwyer Sr., Augustus Ellsworth Jr., Daniel Evans, Louis Godfroy, Vernon Higgins, Win Hotaling, Richard Howard, Joseph Loeffler, Ann Marie Leiser, Jose’ Ortiz, Gerald Paris, Jethro Rossman, Joshua Schuster, Janet Shumsky, Thomas Shumsky, Aaron Sweet and Brian Wheeler.

Chatham Fire Department also hosted a firefighter survival course taught by Louis Godfroy with Mr. Laviano and Mr. Shultis assisting. Attendees were: Eric Barnes, Phillip Bickerton, Douglas Blish, Daniel Brackett, Jordan Brahm, Timothy Embry, Judy Gawron, Phillip Genovese Sr., Anthony Link, Karen Loeffler, Phillip Martel, Andrew Montie, Jozef Ortiz, Paul Pratt, Paul Rideout, Robert Rugen and Patrick Wermitt

FAST training was taught by Ms. Eigenbrodt, Wayne Gearing and Mr. Laviano at the Stuyvesant Fire Station. Graduates were: Patrick Wermitt, Douglas Blish, Paul Rideout, Paul Pratt, Anthony Link, Andrew Montie, James Acker II, Thomas Davis, Timothy Embry Sr., Steven Montie, Karen Loeffler, Matthew Fischer and Phillip Martel.

Greenport Station 2 was the location of Fire Behavior Arson Awareness course with Ted Beck teaching. Sixteen students averaged a final grade average of 94 for the 12-hour course. Graduates included five students from West Albany Fire Station. Students were: Robert Banks Jr., Charles Barnes, Stephanie Barnes, Michael Bortugno, Jack DeBoer Jr., Ann Marie Leiser-Hamilton, Clinton Mossman, Matthew Oakley, Casey Simmons, Corey Simmons, Kevin Sokol, Paul Sullivan Jr., Dennis Ray, Elizabeth Reedy, Edward Roosa and Ryan Wexler.

Live Fire Training was taught by Mr. Beck at Stuyvesant Falls House with the following attending: Chris Bortugno, Michael Bortugno, Wayne Butterworth Sr., Ann Marie Leiser-Hamilton, Robin Howes, Andrew Montie, Edward Roosa, Jethro Rossman, Kevin Sokol, Paul Strobel, Timothy Trowbridge  and Benjamin Webster.

Mr. Laviano and Mr. Godfroy with the cooperation of the Mellenville Fire Department successfully completed an Accident Victim Extrication training for the following volunteers: Mark Beaumont, John Caulderon, Joseph Daniels, Tracey Daniels, Daniel Farr, Andrew Grabowski, Jeff Hughes, Dora Kaeding, Chad Kilmer, Barbara Motyl, Davis Naughton, Tonya Oakley, Ryan O’Dowd, Thomas Rector, Joshua Skelley, Robert Speed, William Stockman, Timothy Teaney and Collin Brown.

Mr. Godfroy and Mr. Laviano also taught a second accident Victim extrication course at the Craryville Fire Station. Graduates were: William Baker IV, William Baker III, Issac Bogucki, Jeremy Closson, Brian Edelman, Elwin Moore, John Piser, Michael Poland Jr., Dell Scutt, Charles Sussman and Dylan VanDeWater.
