KINDERHOOK–In the final home game of their careers, Ichabod Crane seniors Joe Fey and Tyler Zeh each recorded a double-double in their team’s 69-37 victory over Corinth in the first round of the Class B basketball sectionals. Fey finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds while Zeh had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win. The victory moved the Riders into the next round where they were scheduled to travel to top seeded Watervliet Tuesday night. The two teams met earlier this season in Valatie, where the Cannoneers won 60-44.
Down 5-4 early in the first quarter, the Riders rode ahead on the strength of their senior duo, as Fey and Zeh combined for 9 points down the stretch. Corinth nailed a 3 with just 16 seconds remaining in the opening quarter, but ICC still finished the first up by 5. Seth Scarano nailed a 3 to open the second quarter, starting what would be a big, 21-point second quarter for the Riders that put them up 34-19 at the half.
Things just kept getting better for the Riders in the third, as junior point guard Steven Rybka scored 7 points in the quarter, pushing ICC’s lead to 28. In the fourth the subs came in and ICC saw 5 different players score, as they cruised to the 69-37 win.
Fey did most of his rebounding on the offensive end and contributed from the free throw line as well, converting 13 of 16 from the charity stripe. Zeh grabbed almost all of his rebounds on the defensive end and hit a trio of triples. Rybka finished the game with 7 points, 5 assists and 4 steals, while fellow juniors Shane Morris and Stephen James both scored 6 points. Sophomores Scarano and Mike Ferrari each added 3, as did freshman Jim Hollister. Junior Shaun Davis and sophomore Luykas Van Alstyne each added 2 in the win.
