STUYVESANT—A Craryville woman died of injuries she suffered after jumping from a moving vehicle, February 25 at 4:37 p.m.
State Police from Kinderhook and investigators from Livingston are investigating the incident.
They have determined that a green Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling south on State Route 9 when Jessica L. Sherman, 26, of Craryville suddenly jumped from the passenger side door and was fatally injured.
Police called the incident “a truly tragic event.” They said in a press release that Ms. Sherman apparently “exited the truck driven by a male acquaintance for an unknown reason.”
She was not struck by the truck or any other moving vehicles. Her death was caused by the impact with the road surface and the cause was massive head trauma. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. There are no criminal charges pending or anticipated at this point in the investigation, police said. The driver of the truck was not identified.
State Police were assisted at the scene by Valatie Rescue Squad and the Stuyvesant Falls Fire Department. State Route 9 was closed between Sunnyside Road and County Route 26A for several hours and was re-opened as of 8:30 p.m. Firefighters were back in service at 9 p.m.
North Chatham
Edward J. MacLeod, 43, of North Chatham was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief, third degree menacing, driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of marijuana by State Police from Kinderhook, February 15 at 10:25 p.m.
Mr. MacLeod was involved in a physical altercation with a woman at a residence in North Chatham, when he allegedly physically menaced her and then allegedly intentionally damaged a phone in an attempt to prevent her from calling for help. Mr. MacLeod was arraigned in Chatham Town Court and was released on his own recognizance.
A short time after being released, Mr. MacLeod was seen driving a motor vehicle on State Route 203 in North Chatham. Because troopers had knowledge of Mr. MacLeod’s level of intoxication from the prior incident, they pulled him over and found him to still be intoxicated. Mr. MacLeod was arraigned again in Chatham Town Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to reappear in court February 26.
Austerlitz
Abdul S. Labib, 59, of Hudson was charged with fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property by State Police and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation from Livingston, February 21.
The arrest was made following an ongoing burglary investigation in Austerlitz. During the course of the investigation, State Police received information that Mr. Labib, a parolee, was in possession of items that were stolen from an Austerlitz residence the week before.
State Police and state parole officers were assisted by the Hudson Police Department.
Mr. Labib was arraigned in Greenport Court. He was sent to jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
The investigation into the burglary is continuing and further arrests are anticipated.
Hudson
For the second time in less than a week, Hudson Police charged Ntchota J. Badila, 24, of Hudson after receiving a report of car break-ins in the vicinity of Clinton Street.
Police also arrested his alleged accomplice, Stephen R. Pabon, 22, who claimed to be homeless.
Police responded to a citizen’s complaint February 20 at 3:31 a.m. of two suspicious subjects walking along Clinton Street, going into driveways and pulling on the handles of parked vehicles. Officers approached the suspects on foot and took them into custody without incident.
Mr. Badila was charged with misdemeanor attempted petit larceny, misdemeanor sixth degree conspiracy and unlawful possession of marijuana. Mr. Pabon was charged with sixth degree conspiracy.
Some items were found on their persons, and the investigation into the ownership of that property is being conducted.
Both were arraigned in Hudson City Court before Judge Mark Portin. Mr. Pabon was sent to the county jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond and is due back in court February 27. Mr. Badila was ordered to report to the Columbia County Probation Department, where authorities were expected to impose an 8 p.m. curfew on him.
Stuyvesant
Amanda M. Niosi, 20, of Coxsackie was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor, by Deputies Jason Garvey and Thomas Bagnall, February 16 at 4:55 a.m.
Ms. Niosi is accused of causing damage to a motor vehicle at a private residence in Stuyvesant. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Stuyvesant Town Court, March 5.
Greenport
State Police from Livingston conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative, February 20. State Police went into 10 retail establishments, nine of which declined to sell alcohol to a minor.
State Police charged Savrabh Yogi, 22, of Hudson, an attendant at the A&W 66 Food Mart, Union Turnpike, Greenport for a violation of Penal Law 260. 20(2)
unlawfully dealing with a child and for ABC 65-1 selling alcohol to a person under 21. The defendant was issued an appearance ticket returnable in Greenport Court March 3.
Drugs/alcohol
The following face drug- and/or alcohol-related charges:
*Elliot R. Green, 27, and Angellic P. Innamorato, 32, both of Hudson were charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, by State Police on the New York State Thruway in New Baltimore, Greene County, January 28 at 1:33 a.m. Troopers pulled over the gold Lincoln operated by Mr. Green on I-87 for failure to signal. During an interview with the driver, a strong odor of marijuana emanated from inside the car. Mr. Green was told to step out of the car and when the trooper asked him about the smell that he detected, Mr. Green produced a bag from his pocket which contained 14.5 grams of marijuana, police report. Mr. Green was taken into custody and a further check of his person revealed 76 small glassine envelopes which contained a total of 2.28 grams of heroin, police report. The passenger, Ms. Innamorato, was also found in possession of one glassine envelope containing heroin. During processing, she was found in possession of an additional five envelopes of heroin and nine oxycodone pills. Mr. Green was additionally charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Ms. Innamorato was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance in non-original container. They were both issued tickets to appear in New Baltimore Court at a later date.
*Philip M. Seifridsberger, 27, of Cherry Plains was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving while ability impaired by drugs by State Police from New Lebanon, January 31. Troopers pulled Mr. Seifridsberger over on state Route 22, New Lebanon. He was issued tickets to appear in New Lebanon Court at a later date.
*Richard J. Sanders, 27, of Ghent was charged with driving while intoxicated and operating motor vehicle with blood alcohol content greater than .08% by Deputies Jason Garvey and Thomas Bagnall February 2 at 12:59 a.m. Deputies stopped Mr. Sanders for traffic infractions on State Route 66 in Ghent. He submitted to a breathalyzer test which yielded a result of .13%. He was issued tickets returnable in Ghent Court March 3.
*Timothy J. Lanphear, 46, of Ghent was charged with driving while intoxicated, with two prior convictions in the past 10 years, a class D felony, by State Police from New Lebanon, February 2 at 10:40 p.m. Mr. Lanphear was found to be intoxicated during a traffic stop for speeding in Kinderhook. He provided a breath sample which yielded a blood alcohol content of .13%. He was arraigned in Kinderhook Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
*Andrew J. Clark, 19, of the Bronx was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, by State Police from Livingston, February 2 at 6:45 p.m. Troopers pulled Mr. Clark over in Claverack after seeing him fail to dim his headlamps to oncoming traffic and fail to maintain his lane of travel. A Drug Recognition Expert was utilized to confirm he was impaired. Mr. Clark was issued tickets and ordered to appear in Claverack Court at a later date.
*Dean M. Klepp, 56, of Milan was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, by State Police from Livingston, February 3 at 5:07 p.m. Troopers received a complaint about an erratic driver. They located the vehicle driven by Mr. Klepp and saw it traveling on State Route 9, Livingston, failing to stay in its lane of travel. Mr. Klepp provided a breath sample which yielded a blood alcohol content of .38%, more than four times the legal limit of intoxication. He was issued tickets ordering him to appear in Livingston Court at a later date.
*Sarah L. Hampton, 24, of Hudson was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic needle and controlled substance not in its original container by State Police from Livingston, February 8. Troopers stopped the vehicle in which Ms. Hampton was a passenger on Fairview Avenue, Greenport for failure to signal turn. As a trooper approached the vehicle, Ms. Hampton was seen hiding items. During the interview, Ms. Hampton was found to be in possession of heroin, oxycodone, suboxone, alprazolam and a hypodermic needle. She was issued tickets to appear in Greenport Court February 24.

*Ernest Hartfield was arraigned in Columbia County Court before Judge Richard M. Koweek on an indictment for third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, January 14. Ann Weaver represents Mr. Hartfield. He is scheduled for trial August 4.
*Ashley Ramsey was arraigned in Columbia County Court before Judge Koweek on an indictment for third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, January 14. Attorney Barry Sack represents Mr. Ramsey, whose trial is scheduled for August 4.
*Justin Hotaling was sentenced to seven years in state prison and seven years of post-release supervision on his conviction of second degree attempted criminal sexual act and first degree attempted sexual abuse by Judge Jonathan D. Nichols, January 7. State Police and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigated this matter and charged Mr. Hotaling who is represented by attorney Cassandra Channing.
*Kenneth Washington was convicted by plea on an indictment for third degree burglary and third degree assault before Judge Nichols, January 7. Mr. Washington will be sentenced March 5 at 10:30 a.m. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office arrested Mr. Washington who is represented by attorney John Leonardson.
*James Jennings was sentenced by Judge Nichols to 2 to 4 years in state prison on his conviction of second degree attempted criminal possession of a forged instrument, January 7. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigated this matter and arrested Mr. Jennings. The public defender represented Mr. Jennings.

Bruno was convicted by plea of driving while intoxicated by Judge Nichols, January 3. Ms. Bruno will be sentenced February 28. State Police arrested the Ms. Bruno, who is represented by attorney Michael C. Howard. –Diane Valden
