CLAVERACK—A local woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash on County Route 27B in the Churchtown hamlet, Saturday, January 11 at 7:40 a.m.
State Police from Livingston say that a pickup truck driven by Wendy Zullo, 53, of Claverack went off the highway and struck a bridge abutment.
Ms. Zullo suffered massive trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Columbia County Coroners’ Office was on the scene and State Police were assisted by Churchtown, Greenport and Claverack firefighters.
Hudson
Cory A. Velazquez, 26, of Hudson was charged with three counts of third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance on an indictment in connection with a December 20 drug sweep in which 19 people were charged with multiple felony counts for narcotics sales in and around Hudson.
Mr. Velazquez was the only suspect who could not be located during the sweep.
Hudson Police Detective Jason Finn took Mr. Velazquez into custody at 974 Columbia Street, January 1 at 1:15 p.m. on a November 25, 2013 arrest warrant for second degree criminal contempt, disobeying a court order, along with the drug charges listed in the indictment.
Mr. Velazquez was arraigned in Columbia County Court before Judge Jonathan Nichols who sent him to Columbia County Jail without bail. He is to return to Columbia County Court January 31.
“Mr. Velasquez… was identified by a member of the department as he sat in the passenger seat of a vehicle outside a Hudson restaurant. He was taken into custody without incident. In the 10 days following our enforcement detail, the department investigated numerous leads concerning Mr. Velazquez’s whereabouts. Ultimately it was diligent police work and alertness that tracked him down,” Hudson Police Chief L. Edward Moore said in a press release.
*Timothy S. Hawver, 23, of Hudson was charged with second degree criminal contempt, a class A misdemeanor, and trespass, a violation, by State Police, December 21 at 2:40 p.m.
Troopers were conducting a property check at the Amtrak Station when a vehicle was seen traveling down the access road which was clearly posted to prevent trespassers. The operator of the vehicle, Mr. Hawver, was found to be in possession of a firearm which he is prohibited from possessing per a court order of protection.
He was issued tickets ordering him to appear in Hudson City Court at a later date.
Claverack
Joshua Slingerland, 17, a resident at the Office of Children and Family Services–Brookwood Secure Center was charged with third degree assault by State Police investigators from Livingston, December 23.
It is alleged that the teen physically attacked a Brookwood Center staff member at the facility and caused him substantial injury December 11.
He was issued an appearance ticket and sent back to the Brookwood Center pending further court action.
*Arjante Moss, 17, Jean-Pierre Hernandez-Perez, 19, and Dontay Cooper, 16, all residents at the Office of Children and Family Services–Brookwood Secure Center were charged with third degree assault by State Police investigators from Livingston, December 23.
It is alleged that the teens physically attacked a Brookwood Center staff member at the facility causing him substantial injury November 26.
All three were released on their own recognizance, issued appearance tickets and sent back to the Brookwood Center pending further court action.
