CLAVERACK–State Police at Livingston charged Peter B. Wagar, III, 16; Brady Krager, 17, and Joshua J. Ortiz, 17, with third degree burglary, a class D felony, July 1 and 2. A State Police investigation revealed that the youths allegedly forcibly entered Keeler’s Eskimo Bar on Route 9H in the early morning hours of July 1. Once inside, the three subjects stole multiple items including money and ice cream, which police say was melted when they recovered it.
All three subjects were arraigned in Livingston Court before Justice Robert Q. Moore.
Peter was released on his own recognizance, Brady was committed to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bail bond and Joshua was committed to jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond.
All subjects are due to return to Livingston Court at a later date. Brady and Joshua also face additional felony charges for criminal mischief related to the alleged intentional damaging of multiple vehicles in the Claverack area.
Clermont
Shawn Hegarty, 19, of Tivoli and ex-firefighter Peter Brillis, 23, of Livingston were each charged with third degree burglary and larceny by State Police at Livingston, June 30.
During a lengthy investigation into a complaint from the Clermont Fire Department regarding the theft of diesel fuel, State Police conducted surveillance of the fire department.
Mr. Hegarty and Mr. Brillis were allegedly caught in the act of breaking into the firehouse and stealing diesel fuel. Over the course of the past several months it is alleged that the two stole more than $1,000 in fuel from the department.
The two were arraigned in Germantown Court before Justice Robert Beaury sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.
Niverville
Trevor Zolner, 22, of Niverville faces additional charges resulting from a serious personal injury ATV accident in April.
On April 22, Mr. Zolner was operating a 2002 Honda ATV on the Concourse in Niverville when he struck a 16-year-old pedestrian who was walking on the east edge of the roadway. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries, including a concussion, severely fractured right leg, kidney and liver injuries, as well as, multiple pelvic fractures.
Mr. Zolner was additionally charged with first degree vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .08%, according to a July 5 press release from State Police. Toxicology results reveal that Mr. Zolner’s blood alcohol on that evening was .17%, more than twice the legal limit. He was initially charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious personal injury, and multiple other vehicle and traffic law violations.
Chatham
State Police are investigating a one-car accident on the Berkshire Spur of the Thruway Saturday afternoon, July 6 that resulted in injuries to six people, including one who was critically hurt.
A 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by Marialena Young, 37, of Newton, MA, went out of control while traveling westbound on I-90 and rolled over several times before coming to rest in the median.
A passenger, Elizabeth Tyler-Penny, 50, of Brookline, MA, suffered serious head and internal injuries. She was taken to Albany Medical Center and was listed in critical condition. The driver and the other four passengers, all children, were also taken to the Albany Medical Center with what State Police describe as non-life-threatening injuries. One of the children was taken by LifeNet helicopter with a leg fracture. The Tri-Village Fire Department responded along with Chatham, Greenport, Valatie and Bruen ambulance squads, who took five of the injured persons. No arrests were made and the State Police are continuing their investigation.
Hillsdale
Deputy David Proper investigated a personal injury automobile crash on State Route 23 at the intersection with Mitchell Street, June 26 at 7:29 a.m.
Calvin Sheldon, 76, of Hillsdale was driving east on State Route 23 in a Ford Mustang when he attempted to make a left turn onto Mitchell Street, crossing into the path of a 1999 Kenworth dump truck owned by Wilkinson Excavating, Inc. of Sheffield, MA, which was westbound on Route 23. The driver of the truck, Eugene Funk, 50, attempted to avoid the collision, but lost control of the truck and struck a 2009 Nissan operated by Avis Meenaugh, 55, of Hillsdale. The dump truck continued on, struck an earth embankment and overturned onto its passenger side spilling its load of dirt and stones.
All three operators, who were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles and wearing safety restraints, were taken by the Community Rescue Squad to Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, MA, for evaluation.
Mr. Sheldon was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way on a left hand turn. Mr. Funk was issued tickets for DOT violations by Deputy Heath Benansky. Also on the scene for the Sheriff’s Office was Lieutenant James Andrews and Deputy Peter Merante, Jr. The Hillsdale Fire Company and New York State Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
Hudson
Danielle Putnam, 44, of Hudson was charged with first degree sexual abuse (sexual contact with an individual less than 11 years old) and endangering the welfare of a child by Hudson Police Detective John Funk, Jr., at 451 State Street, June 20 at 9:19 a.m.
Ms. Putnam allegedly subjected a child less than 11 years old to sexual contact and endangered her physical and mental welfare, June 8 at about 10 a.m.
Arraigned before Judge Mark Portin, Ms. Putnam was sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. She was to reappear at a later date.
*David Anthony Blake, Sr., 39, of Hudson was charged with third degree assault (with intent to cause physical injury), endangering the welfare of a child and fourth degree criminal possession weapon (intent to use) by Hudson Police Officer Randy Clarke at the police station, June 21 at 12:11 p.m.
Mr. Blake was arrested after police received a report from Child Protective Services that he had allegedly assaulted a juvenile by hitting him with a belt and causing injuries. Mr. Blake was arraigned in Greenport Court and sent to the county jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. He was to reappear in court at a later date.
