MELLENVILLE—Edward W. Stallman, 48, of Mellenville, a Level III registered sex offender, was charged with failure to register a change of address within 10 days as required and unlawful possession of marijuana by Deputy Joshua Oakes and Senior Investigator William Foster, January 3 at 3 p.m.
Mr. Stallman was arraigned in Claverack Court before Justice Michael Brandon, sent to the county jail without bail and ordered to return to court at a later date.
Kinderhook
Corey R. Hinz, 24, of Stuyvesant was charged with second degree possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony, by Deputy Louis Bray and Sheriff’s Investigator Anthony Brahm, December 19 at 3:57 p.m.
Mr. Hinz allegedly possessed a forged check that belonged to a business in Kinderhook. He was arraigned in Stuyvesant Court before Justice Carrie O’Hare and sent to the county jail in lieu of $1,000 bail. He will appear in Kinderhook Town Court at a later date.
Stuyvesant
Jason Nichols, 28, of Stuyvesant was charged with third degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both class A misdemeanors, by Deputies Louis Bray and Andrew Broockmann, December 25 at 4:20 p.m.
Mr. Nichols allegedly threw a full can of beer which struck a 27-year-old woman in the presence of a child. Arraigned before Stuyvesant Justice Joseph Bruno, Mr. Nichols was sent to the county jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bail bond and ordered to return to court at a later date.
Claverack
Edward Krisniski, 86, of Hudson was charged with failure to use designated lane and leaving the scene of a property damage accident by Sheriff’s Sergeant William Zincio, December 26 at 4:45 p.m.
Deputies say Mr. Krisniski fell asleep while driving his 2011 Buick on Route 23B west of Route 9H, went off the road, struck and destroyed a road sign then left the scene. He was not injured. He will answer the charges in the Claverack Court January 15.
•Donald Porter, Jr., 62, of Hillsdale was charged with third degree assault by Deputies Kris Bauhoff and Peter Grzeskow, January 2 at 12:15 a.m.
Mr. Porter allegedly assaulted a 48-year-old man at a residence on Route 217 by punching him in the eye several times. Mr. Porter will answer the charge in Claverack Court January 22.
Stottville
Amanda L. Romines, 30, of Schenectady was charged with trespass by Sheriff’s Sergeant William Zincio, December 27 at 4:20 p.m.
Ms. Romines was at a Route 9 business and though she was asked to leave by personnel at the establishment several times she allegedly refused.
She was issued an appearance ticket to answer the charge in Stockport Court January 14.
Hudson
Mohammad A. Monzur, 24, of Hudson was charged with third degree assault (with intent to cause physical injury) by Hudson Police Officer Kevin Sweet at 32 Fairview Avenue, December 24 at 2:51 p.m.
Mr. Monzur allegedly punched a woman in the face multiple times, kicked her in the ribs and legs, as well as inflicted scratch marks on her chest. The victim sought medical attention at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Monzur was arraigned before City Judge John Connors and sent to jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $2,000 bail bond.
•Selha O. Graham-Cora, 34, of Hudson was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second degree harassment (physical/repeated) by Hudson Police Officer Kevin Sweet at the police station, December 25 at 5:05 p.m.
Police were called to Bliss Towers, 41 North Second Street, for an altercation. Ms. Graham-Cora allegedly punched a 15-year-old boy in the face.
She was arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin and released.
•A 15-year-old boy, who police did not identify, was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, a misdemeanor, by Hudson Police Officer James Nero at the police station, December 25 at 6:11 p.m.
The youth allegedly possessed a dangerous instrument—a knife–during an altercation at a North Second Street address.
He was issued a juvenile appearance ticket to probation.
•Michael A. Morgan, 32, of Hudson was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second degree harassment (physical/repeated) by Hudson Police Officer William Wrigley at the police station, December 28 at 8:52 a.m.
Police were called to an assist-citizen complaint on Harry Howard Avenue. Mr. Morgan allegedly harassed a woman while holding a child. He turned himself in on the signed complaints. He was arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin and released.
•Marguerite R. Groat, 41, of Hudson was charged with second degree assault (with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon), fourth degree criminal mischief (intent to damage property) and fourth degree criminal possession weapon (intent to use) by Hudson Police Officer William Wrigley at 134 Warren Street, December 28 at 9:50 a.m.
Police responded to the Warren Street address for a fight in progress. Ms. Groat allegedly struck a man in the face with a doorknob causing swelling, pain and a laceration to his right eyebrow. She also allegedly destroyed property in the residence.

Canaan
Timothy W. VanAlstyne, 23, of Chatham was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, both unclassified misdemeanors and unlawful possession of marijuana by Deputy Jason Garvey following a traffic stop on Route 295, January 1 at 9:24 a.m. He was released with tickets to answer the charges in Canaan Court, January 24.
Warrants
•Marcus Mitchell, 29, of Hudson was charged on a Catskill Village Court bench warrant by Deputy Bernard Roberts, December 18 at 2:08 p.m.
Mr. Mitchell allegedly failed to return to court as directed on an original charge of second degree criminal impersonation. He was taken into custody as he was being released from the Columbia County Jail and turned over to Catskill Police for further processing.
•Ezra L. Walz, 31, of Elizaville was charged on an arrest warrant for fourth degree criminal mischief by Deputy Bernard Roberts, December 21 at 1:09 p.m. Mr. Walz allegedly damaged property while incarcerated at the Columbia County Jail on unrelated charges. Arraigned before Greenport Town Justice Brenzel, Mr. Walz was released on his own recognizance and ordered to return to court at a later date.
•Alexander A. Milne, 20, of Bristol, TN, was charged on a Stuyvesant Court bench warrant by Deputy Joshua Oakes, December 16 at 9:29 p.m.
Turned over to the deputy by Schodack Police Officer Eckel, Mr. Milne allegedly failed to return to court as directed on animal cruelty charges. Arraigned before Stuyvesant Justice Carrie O’Hare, Mr. Milne was sent to the county jail in lieu of $200 cash bail or $1,000 bail bond and ordered to return to court at a later date.
Drugs/alcohol
The following face drug- and/or alcohol-related charges:
•Rowan J. Melanson, 19, of Chatham was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and failure to keep right by Deputies David Proper and Cindy Madison following an automobile crash on State Route 71, Hillsdale, November 27 at 8:18 a.m. Ms. Melanson was driving a 2007 Toyota east when she lost control of the car, crossed over the westbound lane, left the highway and struck an earth embankment. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its wheels. The Community Rescue Squad took her to Fairview Hospital, Great Barrington, MA, for evaluation. Deputies subsequently found her to have heroin. She was ticketed to answer the charges in Hillsdale Court at a later date.
Two-story house goes up in flames
Ten fire companies fought freezing temperatures and a stubborn house fire Wednesday afternoon, January 2. West Ghent firefighters were called to 26 Stockport Road in Ghent at 1:07 p.m. Mutual aid was summoned from Stockport, Chatham, Ghent, Kinderhook, Stuyvesant, Stuyvesant Falls,
Stottville, Valatie, Mellenville and Greenport. The two-story house was fully involved in smoke and flames when firefighters arrived. According to Lance Wheeler, who was on the scene, the homeowner was sitting in his pickup truck as the flames engulfed the building. West Ghent Fire Chief Jim Cesternino said the owner did require treatment from Greenport Rescue Squad personnel. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known. County Fire and EMC Coordinators Offices, State Police and NYSEG were on the scene. Firefighting units were still on the scene as of 2:30 p.m.
