Passenger succumbs to crash injuries, driver charged


LIVINGSTON—A Germantown man died as a result of injuries he suffered in a crash on State Route 9, December 31 at about 1:30 a.m.

An investigation by State Police revealed that a 2003 Toyota driven by Thomas Griffin, 19, of Germantown was traveling south when it went off the road and struck a utility pole. The rear seat passenger, Max Kelly, 21 of Germantown was extricated from the vehicle by Livingston Fire Department and treated by Northern Dutchess Paramedics prior to being transported to Albany Medical Center with extensive injuries, in critical condition.

Mr. Griffin was charged with driving while intoxicated and second degree vehicular assault, a class E felony. He was arraigned in Greenport Court and released on his own recognizance.Police later learned Mr. Kelly, had succumbed to his injuries. The investigation into this matter is continuing with the assistance of the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office. Further charges are anticipated.
