HUDSON–A camp counselor who videotaped two teenage boys masturbating during the summer of 2008 was sentenced to prison time, post-release supervision and must register as a sex offender.
Daniel Konnen, 30, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to two counts of promoting the sexual performance of a child, class D felonies, in July.
In Columbia County Court September 1, Judge Jonathan Nichols sentenced Mr. Konnen to six years on each count for 12 consecutive years in prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision (parole) and before his release from prison Mr. Konnen will be subject to a sex offender registration hearing to determine his classification as a level one, two or three sex offender based on the risk that he may re-offend, according to the court.
Mr. Konnen was the boys’ head counselor at Camp Eagle Hill in Elizaville and filmed the 15-year-old boys without their knowledge.
He was arrested August 20, 2008, following a two-week investigation by State Police. The investigation was initiated at the request of Camp Director Jesse Scherer, who contacted police.
Search warrants were issued and police found evidence of Mr. Konnen’s activities in his cabin at the camp.
