Police nab bank robbery suspect

HUDSON–City Police have charged Francisco Fernandez, 54, of Hudson and Queens with third degree robbery in connection with the July 5 robbery of the Bank of America at 561 Warren Street.

 

Mr. Fernandez was arraigned in Hudson City Court before City Judge John Connor and sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail. He is on parole out of Queens. He was arrested July 6 by detectives with assistance from patrols after a person of interest was questioned at the police station.

The investigation is continuing.

Mr. Fernandez allegedly stole an undetermined amount of money from the bank, July 5 at 12:29 p.m. No one was hurt during the crime and no weapon was displayed.

 

Hudson Police patrol officers and detectives responded to the scene and opened an investigation. They issued a description of the suspect and bank surveillance photos of him.

 

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Catskill Police and other local police agencies were notified and assisted.

*City police received a call from Columbia County 911 reporting an accident involving a vehicle and a seven-month-old child in a stroller at North Third and State streets, July 3 at 9:18 p.m.

Patrol officers and the Greenport Rescue went to the scene.

An investigation revealed that a Hudson woman was walking with her baby in a stroller near the intersection. A vehicle operated by Bryan Osborn, 24, of Catskill was making a right turn onto State Street from North Third Street after stopping for a red light. Mr. Osborn made the turn as the mother was walking into the intersection and his vehicle bumped the stroller. The stroller did not fall over. The rescue squad took the infant to Columbia Memorial Hospital for evaluation. No apparent injuries were reported. The investigation also revealed that Mr. Osborn had a suspended driver’s license in New York State. Investigation is continuing and traffic citations were to be issued.

 

*Three people were charged after a Hudson Police Special Operations Tactical Team executed a Columbia County Court-issued search warrant for narcotics at an apartment at 514 State Street, June 29 at 10:06 p.m.

Detectives and patrols assisted.

A quantity of crack cocaine, marijuana and more than $4,500 in U.S. currency was recovered.

Ali Traore, 16, of the Bronx was charged with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell (crack cocaine).

Phillip A. Caines, 18, of the Bronx was charged with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell (crack cocaine).

Timothy Gooden Merritt, 45, of the Bronx was detained and issued appearance tickets for two counts of unlawful possession of marijuana and his 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe was impounded.

Three other subjects were detained and later released without charges.

The investigation is continuing. Also assisting in the investigation was the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Andi with his handler.

 

*Michael A. Madison, 34, of Hudson was charged with third degree criminal possession weapon and third degree attempted assault (with intent to cause physical injury) by Officer Dean Rowe at 900 Columbia Street, March 11 at 7:09 p.m.

Mr. Madison got into a fight during which he struck a woman in the face with a hard plastic water bottle, attempting to cause physical injury.

He was arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin and released.

 

*Vaughntele M. Ryan, Jr., 17, of Hudson was charged with third degree assault (with intent to cause physical injury), fourth degree criminal mischief (reckless property damage, greater than $250), fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon (intent to use) and criminal obstruction of breathing /blood circulation by Officer Daniel Scali at 42 North Second Street, March 14 at 4:03 p.m.

Vaughntele was charged on a warrant following a fight in which he allegedly struck a 17-year-old female on State Street. He allegedly destroyed her cellular telephone and used the broken phone as a weapon, scraping it on the victim’s face causing physical injury. He also allegedly strangled the victim by placing his hands around her throat and applying pressure.

He was arraigned before City Judge John Connor, an order of protection was issued and he was released.

 

*Robin James Galvano, 41, of Hudson was charged with fourth degree grand larceny (value greater than $1,000) and fourth degree grand larceny (credit card) by Detective David Miller, Jr., at 731 Warren Street, March 15 at 5:32 p.m.

An investigation by detectives revealed that Mr. Galvano allegedly stole a 26-year-old woman’s purse from her vehicle parked at 744 Warren Street, March 14. The purse contained personal property and cash valued at $1,070 as well as a bank debit card.

Arraigned before City Judge John Connor, Mr. Galvano was sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or bond.

 

Drugs/alcohol

The following face drug and/or alcohol-related charges:

*Jamel C. Cobbins, 21, of Hudson was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle,  failure to obey a police officer and driving while ability impaired by alcohol by Officer William Wrigley at 612 Columbia Street, March 9 at 12:58 a.m.

Mr. Cobbins was charged following a traffic stop for a headlight violation. The officer administered field sobriety tests which Mr. Cobbins failed to satisfactorily perform. A breath analysis test was conducted. Mr. Cobbins was issued appearance tickets and released.

*Jamal K. Stephenson, 33, of Hudson was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, unlawful possession marijuana, failure to keep to the right and improper turn/fail to signal by Officer Kevin Sweet at 360 State Street, March 12 at 8:51 p.m.

Mr. Stephenson was pulled over on State Street for failure to

keep right and a turn signal violation. Police smelled marijuana emanating from the vehicle and found that Mr. Stephenson had a marijuana cigarette on his person. He failed field sobriety tests. He was issued appearance tickets and released.

*Meghan M. Egan, 26, of Hudson was charged with failure to keep right (two-lane road) and driving while intoxicated by Officer Nicholas Hodges at 44 Harry Howard Avenue, March 25 at 1:23 a.m.

Police went to investigate a report about a car in Underhill Pond. They found that Ms. Egan, the driver, showed characteristics of intoxication and failed to satisfactorily perform field coordination tests. She refused a breath test. Arraigned before City Judge John Connor, Ms. Egan was released to a family member. The judge also suspended her license.
