HUDSON–City Police, the Hudson Fire Department and the Greenport Rescue Squad were called to a fire on the porch of the Hudson Day Care at 12 Warren Street, May 17 at 8:37 a.m.
Officer Daniel Scali was first on the scene and used the extinguisher from his patrol vehicle to put out the fire. He was assisted by an employee from Hudson Terrace Apartments.
The fire was contained to a small area of the front porch.
Hudson Day Care staff immediately followed protocol and evacuated the children and staff from the building.
Fire officials report that the fire appears to be accidental in nature, caused by a cigarette.
*On Sunday, March 25 at 8:36 p.m., Hudson detectives witnessed drug activity on the 300 block of State Street. The suspect was approached and identified as Ernest “Snoopy” Hartfield, 37, originally from Hudson and currently on federal probation out of the New York Office. Mr. Hartfield cooperated with police at first and then allegedly fought with them on the street in an attempt to get away. He was taken into custody and about eight grams of crack cocaine was recovered along with $2,405 in cash.
Mr. Hartfield was charged with resisting arrest, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (intent to sell) and fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (more than 500 milligrams).
Mr. Hartfield was arraigned in City Court before Judge John Connor and was sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail.

*City police arrested two subjects for narcotics-related crimes April 11. Following an investigation by detectives with the assistance of the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team into illegal narcotics sales, the following people were arrested and charged with the listed offenses:
Virginia Tompkins, 45, of Hudson, was charged with two counts of felony third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, seventh degree misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. She was charged after allegedly selling crack cocaine to an undercover police officer. Upon being arrested she was found to possess crack cocaine and marijuana, which field tested positive. She was arraigned before City Judge John Connor and sent to the county jail without bail.
Christopher Vanterpool, 27, of Hudson, was charged with third degree felony criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth degree felony criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was charged during an undercover narcotics investigation when he was found to allegedly possess 12 knotted-corner plastic bag ends containing crack cocaine which field tested positive. He was arraigned before City Judge Connor and sent to the county jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bail bond.
Both subjects were slated to returnable to city court at a later date.
*Trevor J. Brodowski, 33, of Canaan was charged with possession of burglary tools and petit larceny by Hudson Police Officer William Wrigley at Second and Union streets, February 21 at 12:54 p.m.
The officer investigated a reported larceny from the CVS on Warren Street, February 20. Mr. Brodowski allegedly stole a digital video recording device from the store and used a pair of scissors that he took out of a package in the store to cut the electronic device out of the package in order “to facilitate and commit the larceny,” according to police.
Mr. Brodowski was additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, when upon his arrest, he was found to possess a glass smoking device containing a substance that field tested positive for cocaine.
Arraigned in City Court before Judge John Connor, Mr. Brodowski was released pending a future court appearance.
*Adam James Albert, 31, of Hudson was charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana on the 200 block of Columbia Street by Officer William Wrigley, February 28 at 4:33 p.m.
Officer Wrigley was on patrol and saw Mr. Albert allegedly take a handgun from his waistband and drop it on to the ground when the police car approached. The handgun was subsequently determined to be a BB gun but looked and sounded real when it hit the ground. He also allegedly possessed marijuana.
Mr. Albert was arraigned before City Judge John Connor and released.
*Johnny L. Copeland, 22, of Hudson was charged with third degree assault by Officer James Nero at 119 Columbia Street, February 28 at 11:18 p.m.
Police were called to a fight near 20 Columbia Street and saw Mr. Copeland leaving the area. They knew he was wanted for a February 16 incident during which he allegedly punched a 23-year-old woman in the face, causing her injury.
Arraigned before City Judge John Connor, Mr. Copeland was sent to jail in lieu of $250 cash bail or bond.
*Michael L D’Alessio, 47, of Chatham was charged with third degree menacing by Officer Jeffrey Keyser at the police station, March 1 at 12:01 p.m.
Mr. D’Alessio was involved in a dispute inside a motor vehicle, during which he put a 38-year-old woman in fear of physical injury while in Hudson. The woman fled from Mr. D’Alessio and reported the incident. Sheriff’s deputies found Mr. D’Alessio in Chatham, took him into custody and turned him over to Hudson Police.
Arraigned before City Judge John Connor, Mr. D’Alessio was sent to jail in lieu of $400 cash bail or $1,000 bond.
*Thomas Clayton Confer, Jr., 28, of Hudson was charged with second degree harassment and criminal obstruction of breathing/blood circulation by Officer Brent Rowe at the police station, March 1 at 1:57 p.m.
Mr. Confer allegedly impeded the normal breathing or circulation of a 48-year-old woman by applying pressure on her throat or neck during a fight. The incident was reported to police on February 29 and occurred at a residence on the 700 block of Columbia Street.
Arraigned before Judge John Connor, Mr. Confer was sent to jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or bond.
*Derek A. Eger, 23, of Delaware, OH, was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing/blood circulation by Officer Rodney Waithe at 258 Columbia Street, March 2 at 3:35 a.m.
Mr. Eger got into a physical altercation during which he allegedly obstructed the breathing and blood circulation of a 28-year-old woman at a Columbia Street residence. Arraigned before City Judge John Connor, Mr. Eger was sent to jail in lieu of $250 cash bail or $1,000 bond.
