HUDSON–City Police received a 911 call from the Hudson High School at 215 Harry Howard Avenue reporting that a car hit the building and was inside the faculty lounge, Monday, February 6, 2012, at about 7:54 a.m.
A police investigation revealed that a 1999 Mercedes Benz SUV style vehicle, operated by Theresa Coons, 44, from Hudson, was headed from the north high school parking lot to the main thoroughfare, when it pulled out from a parked position.
In pulling out, the Coons vehicle ran into the side of a 2004 Jeep SUV, operated by Jodi Keyser, 48, of Claverack.
Ms. Keyser’s Jeep was travelling through the main school thoroughfare to the Junior/Senior High School at the time of the collision and had the right of way.
After striking the side of the Jeep, the Mercedes went over the curb, across the sidewalk, hit a fixed park bench, a fixed trash receptacle, a tree and then went into the side of the brick building. No one was hurt either inside or outside the school.
Ms. Coons had a 12-year-old passenger in her vehicle. No injuries reported in the Keyser vehicle and minor injuries reported in the Coon’s vehicle.
Hudson Fire Department responded as did the Greenport Rescue Squad. The Mercedes had to be towed from the scene and there was structural damage to the school, which will not affect classes.

*Mathews Gonzalez, 25, of Hudson was charged with second degree menacing (weapon), fourth degree criminal mischief, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, third degree attempted assault, second degree attempted assault and criminal obstruction of breathing /blood circulation by Hudson Police Officer Randy Clarke on the 400 block of State Street, November 22 at 4:15 p.m.
Following a 911 cell phone call to County Control from a woman screaming for help, Hudson Police went to the area of 20 Columbia Street. Their investigation revealed that there was a violent dispute at the residence and the suspect fled the area. Information about the suspect, Mr. Gonzalez, was relayed to other officers who found him on the 400 block of State Street. Mr. Gonzalez allegedly attempted to physically assault a 29-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant by repeatedly punching her in her head, face, stomach and torso. He also allegedly slammed her into a television and caused more than $250 worth of damage to it. Mr. Gonzales also allegedly menaced her with a knife and strangled her. This violence took place in front of four children under the age of 17. Mr. Gonzales also attempted to assault an eight-year-old boy by slamming his head into the ground. The Greenport Rescue Squad took the woman to Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Arraigned before Hudson City Judge Richard Koweek, Mr. Gonzalez was sent to the county jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
*Christopher L. Scully, 52, of Cairo was charged with third degree burglary, petit larceny, third degree criminal mischief and criminal possession of a controlled substance by Hudson Police Officer Mishanda Franklin at 537 Warren Street, November 17 at 1:51 a.m.
Mr. Scully allegedly burglarized a liquor store by breaking a window to gain access and then allegedly stole several bottles of wine. He was stopped near the crime scene with the evidence. When he was taken into custody he was found to be in possession of cocaine.
Leading the investigation was Sergeant James Delaney with assistance from Officers Franklin and Tracey Newkirk.
Arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek, Mr. Scully was sent to jail in lieu of $750 cash bail or $1,500 bond.
*David Everette Slemp, Jr., 38, who police say is homeless, was charged on two Hudson Police Department warrants for failure to appear on charges of third degree criminal possession of a weapon (a weighted “slap jack”/ black jack) and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance by Officer Shane Bower at the Columbia County Jail, 85 Industrial Tract, Greenport, November 17 at 8:18 a.m.
Mr. Slemp was arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek and sent back to jail.
*Daniel P. Houghtaling, Jr., 31, of Hudson was charged with second degree unlawful imprisonment, third degree attempted assault and criminal obstruction of breathing/blood circulation by Hudson Police Officer James Nero at the police station December 2 at 5:37 a.m.
Mr. Houghtaling allegedly punched, scratched and kicked a woman during an altercation at a Warren Street residence. He also allegedly covered the woman’s mouth with his hand, which prevented her from breathing and physically prevented her from leaving the residence.
Arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek, Mr. Houghtaling was sent to the county jail in lieu of $250 cash bail or $500 bond.
*Oscar T. Matos, 32, of Hudson was charged with second degree assault by Hudson Police Officer Brent Rowe at the police station, December 2 at 6:14 p.m.
Mr. Matos allegedly assaulted a 26-year-old man at 409 Warren Street by punching him in the face and throwing him down a flight of stairs causing physical injury, November 29. The victim went to the police station to report the assault. He suffered fractures to his face and back.
Arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek, Mr. Matos was sent to jail without bail.
*Barry L. Visscher, 45, of Hadley was charged with third degree grand larceny (value greater than $3,000) and nine counts of offering a false instrument for filing by Hudson Police Officer Corey Skype at 422 Main Street, Catskill, November 27 at 6:43 p.m.
Mr. Visscher allegedly filed fraudulent documents stating that he was unemployed when in fact he was employed and received unemployment benefits from the state Department of Labor on nine different occasions. Police worked with the state Department of Labor investigators on the case.
Arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek, Mr. Visscher was jailed in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bond.
*Jamont M. McClendon, 27, of Hudson was charged on a warrant for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest at 744 Warren Street by Hudson Police Officer James Nero, November 13 at 2:40 a.m.
Police went to the Wunder Bar Bistro after they received information that Mr. McClendon was there. When police entered to arrest McClendon on active warrants, he allegedly actively resisted the officer’s attempt to take him into custody.
Arraigned before Judge Mark Portin, Mr. McClendon was sent to jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or bond.
*Jean-nane-taye Rowell, 23, of Schenectady was charged on warrants for violations of criminal procedure law, class E felonies, failure to appear on charges of second degree menacing and harassment dating back to May 2010. She was arrested by Schenectady Police and turned over to Hudson Police Officer Jeffrey Keyser, December 2 at 10:48 a.m.
She was arraigned before City Judge Richard Koweek and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond on one bench warrant and sentenced to six months on the other.
Narcotics raids
Following an investigation by detectives into illegal narcotics sales, Hudson Police report executed a Columbia County Court-issued search warrant for narcotics on an individual on the 600 block of State Street, February 1 at 4:13 p.m. At 4:54 p.m., police executed a search warrant at a 37 North Fifth Street basement apartment. The raids were conducted by the department’s Special Operations Tactical Team with assistance from detective and patrol unit officers.
John Ensley, 32, staying at the Berkshire Motor Lodge, is being held in the county jail on a parole warrant with additional charges pending. He was the subject taken into custody on the 600 block of State Street.
The following were arrested at 37 North Fifth Street:
Kathy Loomis, 28, staying at the Berkshire Motor Lodge; held on a parole warrant with additional charges of first degree loitering and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was sent to jail.
The following are charged with first degree loitering and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance: Rashaerd D. Williams, 20, of Cairo; Gregory Wind Jr., 30, of Philmont, released on appearance tickets; David Slemp Jr., 38, from Hudson; Anthony J. Winig, 44, of 37 North Fifth Street; Edward Simmons, 52 of Hudson; William H. Young, 57, of Ancramdale; Phan Try, 27, of Hudson; Juanita Diaz, 27, of Hudson, also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, was released on appearance tickets. Those not released on tickets are being held pending arraignment in City Court. The investigation is continuing.
Drugs/alcohol
The following face drug- and/or alcohol-related charges:
*Christopher M. Duke, 39, of Prattsville was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, operating an uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle, third degree aggravated unlicensed operation and driving while intoxicated, second offense, by Hudson Police Officer Daniel Scali, November 12 at 12:44 a.m.
Mr. Duke was pulled over on State Street for failure to use his turn signal. He was also found to allegedly be operating with a suspended driver’s license; the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured. He allegedly showed signs of intoxication and marijuana was found. Mr. Duke refused to submit to any chemical test to determine the alcohol content of his blood.
Arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin, Mr. Duke was sent to jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
*Tonya B. Woznieski, 39, of Stottville was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, third degree aggravated unlicensed operation and illegally signaling from a parked position by Hudson Police Officer Dean Rowe on the 300 block of Union Street, November 14 at 2:09 p.m. When Ms. Woznieski was pulled over on the traffic violation, she was found to have a suspended operator’s license. Further investigation revealed she allegedly possessed crack cocaine which field tested positive. She was released on appearance tickets.
*Carl Eugene Hart, 32, of Hudson was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief and criminal possession of a controlled substance by Hudson Police Officer Kevin Sweet at 432 Warren Street, November 16 at 9:17 a.m.
Mr. Hart allegedly broke a woman’s cell phone and was found to possess a glass smoking pipe with a white chalky substance inside of it, which later field tested positive for crack/cocaine.
He was arraigned before City Judge Mark Portin and released.
