GREENPORT–A Hudson man faces numerous charges in connection with assaulting a woman at a Greenport motel, July 5.
Kenneth L. Washington is charged with: one count of second degree burglary, a class C felony; one count of second degree assault, a class D felony; two counts fourth degree criminal mischief; one count of second degree reckless endangerment; one count of third degree assault; one count of second degree unlawful imprisonment and one count of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all class A misdemeanors.
Deputies were called to investigate a report that a woman was being assaulted and dragged by her hair in the parking lot of the Joslen Motor Lodge. The 911 call was made by a neighbor who saw the assault occurring, according to a press release from Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr.
Deputies located the 35-year-old victim inside of her motel room when they heard her screams for help.
The Greenport Rescue Squad took the woman to Columbia Memorial Hospital for treatment of head injuries and cuts about her body sustained during the assault.
Further investigation revealed that the woman was Mr. Washington’s girlfriend and that she was staying in a room at the motel. When she returned to her room from an evening out, she found that Mr. Washington had broken into her room. She attempted to leave the room, but Mr. Washington allegedly forcibly stopped and assaulted her.
Sergeants Donald Krapf and Michael Merante and Deputy Jason Garvey made the arrest.
Mr. Washington was arraigned before Justice Robert Brenzel in Greenport Court and was sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail to return for a preliminary hearing at a later date.
Investigator Patrick Logue, Deputy Toby VanAlstyne and Chief Assistant District Attorney Michael Cozzolino assisted in the investigation, which is continuing.
*David M. Wrigley Jr., 19, of Greenport was charged with second degree burglary and third degree grand larceny by Greenport Police, July 2.
Police investigated a burglary on Union Turnpike during which cameras, computers, play stations, jewelry and US currency was stolen. The total value of items taken was more than $3,300.
The arrest was made after observant neighbors saw a vehicle and man walking through a fence line. They gave the investigating officer the information during a neighborhood canvas. Officer Patrick Meister recovered some of the property that was taken.
During an interview with Mr. Wrigley, police say he told them that he committed the crime because he needed the money to make restitution in connection with a prior burglary conviction. Greenport Police arrested him on similar charges in May 2010.
Mr. Wrigley was arraigned before Justice Robert Brenzel and sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail.
Officer Meister, Sergeant Jerald Rowell and Chief Kevin Marchetto conducted the investigation. More charges maybe pending.
Chatham
Chatham firefighters and the Chatham Rescue Squad were called to 162 Hudson Avenue, at the corner of Bushnell Avenue in the village for a structure fire, July 13 at 2:44 a.m. The house is owned by the Mac-Haydn Theatre and show cast members lived there. Ghent firefighters and Red Rock with their FAST team were also dispatched under mutual aid along with firefighters from East Chatham, Valatie and Niverville. The fire is under investigation by the Columbia County Cause and Origin Team. The Red Cross was called in to help the 11 people displaced. The house was deemed a total loss. Firefighters were clear from the scene at 8:29 a.m. The theater’s website says a dozen people are without clothing and personal items. Philmont
Kent J. Stadtlander, 21, of Germantown was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana by Sheriff’s Office Sergeant William Zincio, May 11 at 11:20 a.m.
While conducting an investigation in the village, the sergeant approached Mr. Stadtlander, who allegedly began using obscene and abusive language in public. When attempting to place him in custody for disorderly conduct, Mr. Stadtlander allegedly became physically combative and had to be subdued by Sgt. Zincio. He will answer the charges in Philmont Court.
Valatie
Brian P. Dugan, 47, of Valatie was charged with second degree obstructing governmental administration by Deputies Andrew Broockmann and Travis VanAlstyne, May 24 at 11:45 p.m.
Deputies were investigating a complaint in the area of Church Street. While interviewing Mr. Dugan, he allegedly acted in a threatening and intimidating manner. He will answer the misdemeanor charge in Kinderhook Town Court.
Kinderhook
Andrew Powell, 20, of Valatie was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief by Kinderhook State Police, May 29.
Mr. Powell allegedly went to the residence of an ex-girlfriend and kicked the door, breaking the frame and door handle. He was arraigned in Kinderhook Village Court and was released pending a future court appearance.
Ancram
Darren Macisaac, 44, of Ancram was charged with third degree assault by State Police at Livingston, May 31.
Mr. Macisaac allegedly struck a woman and hurt her during a dispute. He was arraigned in Ancram Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.
Stuyvesant
David Huyck Jr., 22, of Niverville was charged with second degree criminal trespass and criminal obstruction of breathing by State Police at Kinderhook, May 17.
Mr. Huyck allegedly went into a residence where he was not allowed and allegedly choked a woman. He was arraigned in Kinderhook Village Court and released.
Gallatin
State Police at Livingston investigated a one car personal injury accident on the Taconic State Parkway, June 29.
A vehicle driven by Douglas Wright, 54, of Wappingers Falls spun out and struck a guiderail several times before coming to a rest in the roadway. Mr. Wright was taken to Northern Dutchess Hospital for treatment of head pain. State Police were assisted by the Taghkanic Fire Department.
Drugs/alcohol
The following face drug- and/or alcohol-related charges:
*Hector Flores Perez, 31, of Stuyvesant was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operation and various Vehicle and Traffic Law violations by State Police at Kinderhook, May 29. Police were called to investigate a one-car auto accident on Bishop Nelson Road, Kinderhook. They found that a vehicle driven by Mr. Perez went off the roadway and struck a tree. He was allegedly intoxicated and taken to the Albany Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. He was later released with tickets returnable to in Kinderhook Town Court.
*Michael Miller, 20, of Valatie was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance outside its original container in violation of the Public Health Law, unlawful possession of marijuana and trespassing by State Police at Livingston, June 2. Mr. Miller was allegedly in a Kinderhook park after it was closed. He allegedly possessed Vicodin and marijuana. He was released with appearance tickets.
