Banging on the door? Police say man fired rifle at neighbors’ car

GALLATIN– An Elizaville man was sent to jail after he allegedly used a gun to get his neighbors’ attention.

Paul Kozlowski, 48, of Elizaville was charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, third degree criminal mischief and illegal discharge of a firearm, shooting within 500 feet of a residence, in violation of state Environmental Conservation Law, May 16. State Police at Livingston were called to a Gallatin residence to check out a report that Mr. Kozlowski went onto his neighbors’ property with a rifle.

He allegedly knocked on the neighbors’ door and when they did not answer, he allegedly shot one of their vehicles with his rifle several times, inflicting damage.

Police say Mr. Kozlowski is not allowed to possess weapons due to a prior felony conviction. He was arraigned in Livingston Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

Ghent

Jordan C. Coon, 24, of Ghent was charged with five counts of first degree possession of a forged instrument, class C felonies, two counts of petit larceny, class A misdemeanors, and one count of second degree scheme to defraud, class A misdemeanor, by State Police at Livingston, May 26.

Mr. Coon allegedly passed counterfeit US currency in return for goods at the Xtra Mart convenience store in Ghent and at the Warren Inn in Hudson. Arraigned in Livingston Court, Mr. Coon was committed to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $35,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. State Police were assisted by the United States Secret Service with more possible charges are pending. The investigation is continuing.

Canaan

Craig Williams, 27, of Canaan was charged with third degree grand larceny, first degree identity theft and six counts of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, all felonies, by Trooper Matthew Konkle, May 25.

A Canaan businessman reported to the State Police that money was missing from his checking account, police say their investigation pointed to one of the businessman’s employees, Mr. Williams, who allegedly stole several checks totaling $4,260 and cashed them in the Village of Chatham.  Mr. Williams was arraigned and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Greenport

Susan C. Mager, 46, of Leeds was charged with two counts of second degree forgery, class D felony; two counts of first degree falsifying business records, class E felony; one count of fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, class E felony; one count of third degree identity theft and one count of unlawful possession of personal identification material, both class A misdemeanors, by State Police at Livingston, May 31.

In April, a Greene County woman reported to State Police in Catskill that her credit card, which had been mistakenly mailed to her former boyfriend’s address, had been activated and used in Greenport.

The joint by State Police at Livngston and Catskill revealed that her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, Ms. Mager, allegedly stole the card and used it multiple times.

Ms. Mager was arraigned in Greenport Court before Town Justice Francis Abitabile. She was sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. She must return to court June 3.
