GHENT—An Ohio motorcyclist landed in the Columbia County Jail on a long list of charges after Sheriff’s Office sergeants say he refused to pull over, June 21 at 5:50 p.m.
Sergeants William Zincio and Michael Merante charged Edward S. Goehler, 38, of New Concord, Ohio with felony driving while intoxicated, third degree fleeing a police officer in motor vehicle, two counts of reckless driving, unlawful possession of marijuana, failure to comply with a police officer, operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, unregistered motorcycle, refusal to submit to a breath test, resisting arrest, no license plate, operating a motorcycle without a helmet, no face shield, no reflector on rear of motorcycle, driving left of pavement markings, failure to stop at a sign, two counts of unsafe passing, two counts of speeding in excess of 55 mph and one count of speed in zone.
Mr. Goehler allegedly failed to comply with Sergeant Zincio’s request to stop his motorcycle and then attempted to evade law enforcement officials before finally stopping his motorcycle on Route 9H near the county airport.
He then fled on foot and when deputies caught up with him he allegedly fought with them.
Deputies used a Taser device to subdue him.
Arraigned in Ghent Court before Justice David W. Harrison, Sr, Mr. Goehler was sent to county jail without bail and was ordered to return to court at a later date.
Clermont
Five people were hurt when two vehicles crashed at the intersection of Route 9G and County Route 6, June 27 at 2:40 p.m.
A 2000 Mazda operated by Allan Knee, age unavailable, of New York City pulled out from County Route 6 into the path of a 2008 Dodge driven by Vanessa Mergendahl, age unavailable, of Rhinebeck, who was travelling north on Route 9G.
Both vehicles went off the road after impact.
Clermont firefighters were called to scene to extricate one passenger from the Knee vehicle.
In all, five people were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie and Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Investigating Trooper Aaron Schrader from the Livingston State Police barracks issued Mr. Knee a ticket for failure to yield the right of way.
Claverack
One woman was hurt in a crash on Route 23 June 27 at 9:15 a.m.
Alicia Adamo, age unavailable, of Craryville was driving a 1990 Honda, when the vehicle “briefly left the roadway,” according to Livingston State Police.
Ms. Adamo then overcorrected, causing her vehicle to cross the travel lanes and strike the former Barnard Florist building, where it came to rest.
Ms. Adamo was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Claverack firefighters assisted with traffic control. No tickets were issued.
Philmont
Jason Higley, age unavailable, of Philmont was charged with fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property by Trooper Brennan Keeler, June 26.
Mr. Higley is accused of possessing a stolen license plate. During the stolen plate investigation, Mr. Higley was additionally charged with petit larceny after State Police say he admitted to stealing four tires from Costa’s Garage on Gahbauer Road.
Mr. Higley was issued tickets returnable in Philmont Village Court July 16.
Germantown
Nels Lighthart, 19; Peter Amrod, 19; and a 17-year-old boy, not identified by deputies, all of Germantown, were each charged with one count of third degree criminal trespass by Deputy Marcus Hickey, June 23 at 5:08 p.m.
They are accused of entering the Germantown Central School June 13 without permission and when school was not in session.
They were released with tickets directing them to appear in Germantown Court July 8.
Ancram
John J. Bradley, 44, of Ancram, was charged on an arrest warrant issued in Ancram Court for criminal contempt by Deputy Marcus Hickey, June 21 at 5:32 p.m.
Mr. Bradley allegedly violated an order of protection by assault the woman listed as the protected person in the order, June 20.
Dutchess County Deputy Richard Brenner apprehended Mr. Bradley and turned him over to Deputy Hickey.
Mr. Bradley was arraigned in Ancram Court before Justice George Wittlinger, who sent him to the county jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond and directed to return to town court at a later date.
Stockport
John M. Schermerhorn, 48, of Troy, was charged on a bench warrant issued in Stockport Court for failure to appear by Deputies Jason Garvey and Travis VanAlstyne, June 17 at 2:37 p.m.
The warrant was issued by Justice Harold Horner when Schermerhorn failed to return to town court April 4, 2005. State Police in Schodack took Mr. Schermerhorn into custody and turned him over to deputies.
He was arraigned in Stuyvesant Court before Justice Carrie O’Hare and sent to the county jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bail bond. He was ordered to return to town court at a later date.
Chatham
Gloria Rico, 49, of Chatham was charged with second degree harassment and resisting arrest by Chatham Police, June 23 at 8:25 p.m.
Police responded to a call about a person refusing to leave a property in the village. While investigating the complaint, Ms. Rico allegedly became unruly and grabbed one of the
officers in the groin. She allegedly physically fought with officers while they were trying to take her into custody. Arraigned before Village Justice Mark Portin, Ms. Rico was
released and ordered to return to court July 14.
*Ryan D. Keyser, 19, and Benjamin D. Keyser, 21, both of Ghent were charged with third degree criminal mischief, class E felonies, by Chatham Police, June 27 at 4:30 p.m. They are accused of damaging vehicles on Fairview Avenue in the village, early that morning.
They were released with tickets to return to Chatham Village Court July 7.
*Glen D. Gallagher, 25, of Chatham was charged with second degree criminal contempt by Chatham Police, June 23 at 11 p.m.
Mr. Gallagher allegedly violated an order of protection issued by Chatham Village Court.
Arraigned before Chatham Town Justice Michael Hart, Mr. Gallagher was released and ordered to appear in Chatham Village Court at a later date.
*Zechariah Fay, 19, of Niskayuna was charged with passing a red light and third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle by Chatham Police during a traffic stop on Coleman Street, June 29 at 4:30 a.m.
Mr. Fay was allegedly operating a motor vehicle with a driver’s license suspended by a Colonie court order. He was released with tickets to appear in Chatham Village Court July 21.
*Matthew Tashiro, 39, of Chatham was charged with a local law violation for allowing a dog to run at large by Chatham Police, June 9 at 9:35 a.m.
He was issued a ticket to appear in Chatham Village Court at a later date.
Drugs/alcohol
The following face drug- or alcohol-related charges:
*David Kehrer, age and address unavailable, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated by Troopers Chad Drozd and Carmen Martino, June 27 at 12:22 p.m.
The troopers pulled Mr. Kehrer over on Route 9H, headed north in Ghent after seeing his vehicle cross the centerline several times.
A strong odor of alcoholic beverage was detected coming from the vehicle and Mr.Kehrer failed field sobriety tests, State Police report.
Following arraignment, Mr. Kehrer was sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond.
*William G. Wade, 43, of Great Barrington, Mass. was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08% and failure to stop at a stop sign by Deputies Brendan Filli and Louis Bray, June 13 at 3:25 a.m.
Mr. Wade was pulled over on Route 23B, Greenport. He was released with tickets and directed to appear in Greenport Court at a later date.
*Michael J. Westfall, 48, of Valatie was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level greater than .08%, illegal turn signal and consuming an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle by Deputies Brendan Filli and Louis Bray, June 12 at 8:56 p.m. Mr. Westfall was pulled over on State Farm Road, Kinderhook. He was issued tickets and directed to appear in Kinderhook Town Court at a later date.
*Rodney G. Johnson, 36, of Hudson was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08%, failure to stop at a stop sign and illegal turn signal by Deputies Brendan Filli and Michael Stelling, June 16 at 12:01 a.m.
Mr. Johnson was pulled over on St. Charles Place in Greenport. He was issued tickets to appear in Greenport Court at a later date.
*A 17-year-old Chatham girl, not identified by police, was charged with a local law curfew violation and possession of an alcoholic beverage by a person under the age of 21, by Chatham Police, June 22 at 12:45 a.m.
She was released with tickets to appear in Chatham Village Court at a later date.
