Albany County woman charged with stealing from elderly man

VALATIE–Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies charged an Albany County woman will stealing from an elderly Valatie man.

Lisa A. Nagel, 46, of Cohoes, was charged with third degree grand larceny, a class D felony, November 18 at 12:50 p.m. Ms. Nagel, who had the power of attorney for an elderly man she had befriended, used that authority to collect the proceeds from the sale of the man’s home and property while he was in a local nursing home, Sheriff David Harrison Jr. said in a press release.

Sheriff’s Office investigators began looking into the case after being contacted by the Columbia County Department of Social Services Adult Protective Unit.

As the investigation progressed, Ms. Nagel allegedly moved from place to place in Saratoga County and continually received and cashed the victim’s social security checks.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office took Ms. Nagel into custody and turned her over to Columbia County Deputy Joshua Oakes and Investigator John Rivero.

She was arraigned in Valatie Village Court before Justice Steven Berry, released on her own recognizance and ordered to return to village court at a later date.

Additional charges are pending against Ms. Nagel. The investigation is continues by several other agencies including the Social Security Administration, State Police and the Saratoga County Department of Social Services.

“The relationship the Sheriff’s Office developed with the Department of Social Services, particularly the Adult Protective Services Unit and the cooperation of both agencies has allowed the investigation to result in this arrest. We will continue to do everything within the law we can to stop these types of crimes against Senior Citizen’s in Columbia County,” the sheriff said in the release.

Alcohol

The following faces alcohol-related charges:

*Stephen J. Pinkowski, age unavailable, of Stockport was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, having a blood alcohol content of greater than .08% (.14%), driving an uninspected vehicle, driving in violation of a conditional license and having an open container of beer in his vehicle by Trooper Carmen Martino at a road checkpoint on Route 9, Stockport, November 19 at 2:28 p.m. Mr. Pinkowski was issued tickets to appear in Stockport Court November 30.
