RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK—As the final bell rang through the halls of RCS High School last Thursday an air of excitement and relief filled the building. It was the last day of school, and students were eager to begin their summer vacations.

The hallways buzzed with chatter and laughter as students streamed out, making their way to the awaiting buses and parents in the pick-up zone. The usual hustle and bustle of lockers slamming, and goodbyes being shouted across corridors seemed more energetic, tinged with the anticipation of the freedom that lay ahead.

Inside the school, a different kind of celebration was taking place. Eleven graduating seniors were gathered in the gymnasium, surrounded by proud parents, coaches and friends. These students were about to take a significant step toward their futures by signing their letters of intent to play collegiate sports.

Amongst a backdrop of school colors, where banners herald past victories, a table was set up with signing sheets representing the next chapter in the athletes’ lives.
