RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK — The Ravens lost a home game on the gridiron to the Fonda-Fultonville Valley Hawks 21-7 Friday night.

On the first possession of the game, Fonda-Fultonville drove the ball downfield and at 4th down and goal, decided to go for it. The RCS defense successfully halted the drive and took over the ball on downs at their own two yard line. The Ravens failed to move the ball and punted on their first possession.

The game remained scoreless at the end of the first quarter.

The Valley Hawks scored the first points of the game with 10:39 to go in the second quarter when the quarterback ran the ball into the end zone and the extra point was good to put the visiting team up 7-0.

With two minutes left in the half, the Valley Hawks scored another touchdown. RCS’s Ethan Green blocked the extra point kick to keep the score at 13-0.

At the top of the second half, Ta’rae Green was injured on the kick-off return but was able to walk off the field after putting the ball at the RCS 39 yard line. Fonda-Fultonville had a costly offsides penalty on an RCS fourth down which gave the Ravens a first down, and on the next play, quarterback Mason Carkner had a 56-yard run into the end zone to give the home team their first score of the game with 9:47 left in the third. The kick went through the goalposts to put RCS within 6, with a 13-7 deficit.

With a little over three minutes left in the third RCS would threaten again with a Gavin Lochner 28-yard run before being pushed out of bounds. But a couple of plays later, RCS fumbled the ball; sophomore Joseph Touzin was injured on the play and had to be helped off the field. The third quarter ended with the score remaining 13-7.

The Valley Hawks started off the final stanza with a passing touchdown on the first play of the quarter and the extra point put the score at 21-7.

RCS had a couple more chances but failed to convert and the game ended at 21-7.

The loss put the Ravens’ season record at 3-2. The team will be on the road Friday to face off again Lansingburgh. There are only three more regular season games left.
