RAVENA – Frances Jean Wilsey Neri, affectionately known as Blondie to all who knew her, died peacefully at home on Oct. 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Sept. 17, 1927, daughter of the late Elmer and Ruby (Wickham) Wilsey. Blondie was married to the love of her life, Joe Neri, for 52 years prior to his passing in 2001.

Survivors include her children, Paula Jean Neri Wormuth, Laura Ann Neri, John Joseph (Suzanne) Neri, Joseph Ulisse (Wendy) Neri and James Joseph Neri (Lisa McGrail); sibling, Dale (Linda) Wilsey; grandchildren, Amy Jean Bruno McDonald (Terry Jones), Nico and Jonas Neri; great-grandchildren, Ciera Jo McDonald and Austen Michael McDonald.

Blondie was predeceased by her siblings, Raymond (Helen) Wilsey, Geraldine (William) Cronin, Clifford (Carlene) Wilsey, Elmer (Elsie) Wilsey, Alice (John) Halloran and John Wilsey.

Blondie was known as the first Meals on Wheels volunteer in the communities of Ravena, Coeymans and Selkirk. She would deliver meals to families that had a death in the family, a wedding, a baby, or anyone who just needed help. She was extremely generous and had a heart of gold. I’m sure many of you remember the excitement when she showed up at your house with a delicious meal to enjoy.

Blondie was a communicant of the Church of St. Patrick, the Ravena VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hats Society. She went to her Coffee Klatch in the morning and OTB in the afternoon.  She rode in Laura’s convertible in the town’s 2023 parade as Grand Marshal, waving to the endless people shouting “Blondie, Blondie!” After all, that’s who she was, Blondie, and there will never be another one like her.

Friends called at the Babcock Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 4, and the funeral service was held in the Church of St. Patrick, Ravena, on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Contributions in memory of Blondie may be made to The Church of St. Patrick, 21 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143, or VFW Post 9594, Ladies Auxiliary, C/O of Frances Lobdell, P.O. Box 683, Coeymans, NY 12045 or Senior Project of Ravena, 9 Bruno Boulevard, Ravena, NY 12143.
