Alice F. “Tootie” Halloran, age 80, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2022, in her beloved home overlooking the Hudson River in New Baltimore, New York.
She now joins her husband, John V. Halloran, and her beloved friends, Dorothy (Dot) Gagnon and Gloria Deso. She leaves behind her four children: Thomas (Jane) Halloran, Christine Halloran, Kelly Halloran and Colleen (Michael) Oczkowski, in addition to her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: LeeAnne (Jerry) Siguenza [Ronald, Miriah, Julius and Emmanuel] Glenda (Richard) Falig [Donovan Delacruz], Scott Suka, Nate and Colin Oczkowski.
Alice leaves behind her beloved and devoted sister Frances “Blondie” Neri. Both her and her niece Laura Ann Neri put Tootie’s happiness and well-being above their own. In addition, she is survived by her in-laws Elsie Wilsey, Ellen “Wobie”’ Johnson, Sarah Shaw and multiple nieces and nephews.
Tootie takes with her all her memories of time spent together, making fried dough, family gatherings, reunions and country roads.
Graduating from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School in 1960, she remained friends with many of her classmates. Tootie adored her best friend of 70 years, Mary Powell. She loved Jackie Lynch, Donna Wolfe, Carol Serosky, Fran Hoffman, Stephanie Peterson and so many more.
Tootie’s degrees and accolades were not measured by framed certificates, but by the amount of love she had for all the children who were trusted to her care. “One hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child” (Whitcraft). Tootie loved you all and was so proud of who all of you have become.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Ravena, her community, a Fresh Air Kids host family, foreign exchange student family, and many New Baltimore social events throughout the 56 years she lived there.
Tootie was so grateful for the love and care that her aides Pat Brennen, Cathay Glindmyer, and Tunisia McCoy gave her and the wonderful hospice nurses and staff. Thank you.
Tootie truly loved and appreciated the outpouring of love the community showed her husband John by placing a gazebo at the Cornell Park in New Baltimore, New York.
In lieu of flowers, Tootie’s desire was to see new plants and flowers at the gazebo and to add a place to sit and watch her beloved river. There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, June 26, at 11:30 a.m., at the Cornell Park gazebo on Mill Street in New Baltimore, NY 12124. Desserts and beverages will be served.
