Coeymans:

  • Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Suderley left Sunday for a month’s visit at Daytona, Florida.
  • Mr. Coffin, the Grand Army veteran who lives in the Shafer building, was taken to the Albany hospital, suffering with pneumonia Monday.
  • On Friday evening, Feb. 27, Hudson River Council, No. 47. Jr. O.U.A.M. will hold a dance at Junior Order Hall to which the public will be cordially welcome.
  • Rev. S.M. Cole and Mrs. Cole of Coeymans were surprised Monday evening by members

of the congregation who had arranged a party in celebration of their pastor’s birthday. Fifty guests were present, and Mrs. Charles Sherman presented Rev. and Mrs. Cole with a beautiful electric lamp.

  • The village of Coeymans was saddened by the news of the death of Ensign Elbert A. Palmer Jr., only son of Major Elbert A. Palmer Sr., and the late Emma Strong Palmer of Coeymans. The young man was drowned in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Feb. 6, and according to last reports the body has not yet been recovered. He was serving on the S.S. Richmond and his father is located in the Philippines as a member of the U.S. Army medical staff.

Ravena:

  • Regular meeting of the Ravena Grange will be held on Monday evening of next week.
  • Mrs. Wendell Tripp has returned to her work at the Duff-Mott Co. after being ill for the past two weeks.
  • Misses Helen Heath, Ruth Roberts and Ruth Hamlin have been appointed ushers for Community Hall by C.H. Hummer, who is now in charge of that public institution.
  • The regular meeting of Ella C. Perry Chapter, No. 461, O.E.S. will be held on Monday evening, Feb. 16. A cordial invitation is extended to all Master Masons. After the meeting, a social hour and refreshments will be served.
  • Fred D. Baldwin has been chosen trustee of the village in place of G. Christian, deceased.

Coeymans Herald – February 12, 1890 – S.H. & E.J. Sherman, Proprietors

  • The broom factories of John Ziegler and Peter Van Korb are turning out considerable many brooms.
  • Henry Burger has caused a new streetlamp to be erected in front of his property on South Main Street.
  • Some very large sticks of lumber are being hauled to this village from the TenEyck woods and are being piled on the docks preparatory for shipment in the spring.
  • W.W. Snyder is moving his stock into his new location in the Wolfe building. He has the finest store in town and will make a good display.
  • Mr. F.A. Slingerland has disposed of his desirable residence situated on Westerlo Street to Mr. Frank Suderley, who is to take possession April 1. It is said the price paid was $7,500.
  • Mr. J.N. Briggs has been over in Maine, “the ice country,” selling his celebrated elevator plans, and has met with good success.
  • The trustees of our fire department have had the Carroll building refitted and put in shape and the engine, hose cart, buckets, etc., are now located in the new quarters.
