Coeymans:
- They are still picking cherries at the Niles stone house farm. The trees have hung literally loaded.
- The summer vacation season is ending. Labor Day will be virtually the last day. It is expected that the constant travel of autos through our village will decrease after that date.
- Years ago, it was the custom of some to regulate their watches by the passing of a steamboat and later by the fast trains on the railroad, but within a few months if plans carry through, our citizens will have an opportunity to regulate their time by the passing of sea planes of the nation’s air mail service.
- Mrs. William Robbins received a letter from relatives in California by the air mail service.
- Mrs. Thomas J. Cowie entertained relatives in honor of her birthday at the Gedney Hotel on Wednesday evening.
- A number of handsome motorboats have been laying in the local harbors during the past week.
Ravena:
- The prizes for the sporting events in connection with the Labor Day celebration are on exhibition in the Strevell & DeFriest store window.
- Ralph Rowe has just equipped his tonsorial parlor with new hydraulic white porcelain chairs, also two new children’s seats, which sure make his parlor look up to date.
- To stimulate the sale of children’s shoes and clothing, and to encourage trading at home, Swartz’s Bargain Store is giving a five-cent school tablet with every dollar’s worth of goods purchased.
- The big event of the year is nearly here. Next Monday is Labor Day, and the biggest celebration held in many years is expected to take place at that time under the auspices of the members of the Ravena Hose Company No. 1, Ravena’s volunteer firefighters.
- Perry Bacco [perhaps DeBacco] has purchased of Admiral Cowie a lot on Main Street next to the Lawson Bros. building for the purpose of erecting a barber shop and tonsorial parlor. The sale of this lot marks the first sale of land on Main Street in some time.

- Quite a few infants are wrestling with whooping cough.
- An addition is being built to Ed Miller’s restaurant near the dock.
- Miller & Whitbeck have a steam dredge at work at their icehouse site.
- Many parties that have the capital are putting in their winter supply of coal.
- Steps are being taken looking toward the incorporation of the Coeymans Fire Department.
- The stone for the foundation of Briggs’ new icehouse on Baeren Island is being received.
- Mr. John Sutton has purchased the A.S. Vanderzee mansion of First Street. Consideration $4,000.
- Business has been steadily on the increase with the Coeymans bakery. They are furnishing an excellent grade of goods.
- J.B. Holmes and W.H. Keller were re-elected members of the board of trustees of Grove Cemetery at the annual meeting last evening.
