Coeymans:

  • Senator Caleb H. Baumes and wife of Newburgh have been visiting at the home of her parents, B.A. TenEyck.
  • The local fire company received nearly $800 as their share of the receipts from the carnival which was held on Blauvelt’s Point for the past two weeks, including the Fourth of July.
  • When the new state road is completed through the village, there will be a triangular shaped piece of ground left at the intersection of Church Street and Main Street, and it has been suggested by some that it would a good idea to make of it a village green and place thereon the Honor Roll of our World War veterans that has been talked about for a long time.
  • Edward K.F. Uthe is improving the appearance of his residence at Mt. Pleasant by a fresh coat of white paint.
  • Certificates of stock in the Onesquethau Lodge No. 804 of those who had taken shares in the new company are to purchase the building from Mrs. Annie E. Wolfe and heirs, in which the lodge has had meetings since the institution over 33 years ago.

Ravena:

  • Little “Pippy” Montelone had the misfortune to break his leg on Friday night while riding on a motorcycle.
  • The Grange excursion to Kingston Point on Friday last was lightly attended. The late season prevented the farmers from taking advantage of the sail down the river. The day was ideal, however, and those taking the trip had a delightful day.
  • The Senior Yearbook of 1924 is now in circulation and those desiring copies of the same can secure them from the high school students in charge. The book contains all of the papers delivered at the class day and commencement exercises and some other material, humorous and otherwise.
  • There is a big demand for furnishing room and board. Many men here desire this location and seek places to live. There are a great many autos carrying them to and from work, and there is a big exodus daily from the village to the railroad works.
  • The annual picnic of the Ladies Aid Society of the Christian Church will be held at the home of Mrs. Mary Shear, Thursday, July 24.

Coeymans Herald – July 17, 1889 – S.H. & E.J. Sherman, Proprietors

  • A piece of property purchased in this village a few years ago for $600 was sold this summer for $1,800.
  • The new and elegant passenger steamer General is now running on the Catskill-Albany route.
  • Hiram Sutton & Son are operating the brickyard lately completed by Walsh & Brower, having effected a lease for a term.
  • Miss Annie Maxwell has leased the Carhart ice cream parlors in the Herald building and will continue the business the remainder of the season.
  • J.N. Briggs has broken ground on Baeren Island preparatory to the erection of an icehouse of 15,000 tons capacity. The roof will be fitted for a pavilion and will be reached from the excursion ground by a handsomely constructed truss bridge.
