RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK — The RCS district’s elementary schools will be dismissing students early today due to the heat wave. High school will remain as scheduled but Regents testing will be relocated to air conditioned spaces. The middle school will have a full day as that building has air conditioning.

The heat wave could send temperatures into the high 90s today, and for much of the rest of the week, bringing more schedule changes over the next few days on this, the final week of school.

TUESDAY

The RCS district announced that Pieter B. Coeymans and A.W. Becker elementary schools will dismiss students early, with parent pick-up beginning at 12:20 p.m. and buses at 12:30 p.m. Students will be served lunch prior to dismissal and after-school child care programs will not be held. Parents and guardians should be prepared for their student to be home three hours earlier than usual, according to the district.

The middle school will remain a full day of instruction because that building has air conditioning.

At the high school, students taking Regents exams will have their schedule go on as planned, but all testing will be moved to air-conditioned spaces.

WEDNESDAY

There will be no school on Wednesday, which was a planned day off in observance of Juneteenth.

THURSDAY

Thursday will also seechanges as the heat wave is expected to continue throughout the week.

Students at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School will have an early dismissal, again with parent pick-up at 12:20 p.m. and buses departing at 12:30 p.m. No after-school childcare will be provided.

At A.W. Becker Elementary School, the kindergarten celebration will be held at 9:30 a.m. — a change from the scheduled 10 a.m. moving-up ceremony. All other students will again be dismissed early, with parent pick-up at 12:20 p.m. and buses leaving at 12:30 p.m.

Middle school students will be dismissed early at 11:07 a.m. and will be served lunch prior to dismissal.

High school students will take their morning and afternoon Regents exams as scheduled but again, all testing will be moved to air-conditioned spaces.

FRIDAY

Friday will be the last day of school.

Elementary school buses will leave at 12:30 p.m., with parent pick-up at 12:20 p.m. There will be after-school childcare programs on Friday at A.W. Becker, but not at Pieter B. Coeymans.

Middle school students will be dismissed at 11:07 a.m. and will be served lunch before school is let out, and morning Regents exams at the high school will again be relocated to air-conditioned rooms.
