Family Storytime is a fun, participatory storytime for the whole family that includes songs, fingerplays, stories and movement activities. Early literacy activities are emphasized. No registration is needed.
- Lunchtime Books: ‘The Swimmers’

The novel is “The Swimmers” by Julie Otsuka. This is a novel portraying a group of dedicated recreational swimmers and what happens when a crack appears at the bottom of their community pool. Books are available at the library and new members are always welcome. No registration required. For adults.

Romp and Read will help get the wiggles out on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. with interactive themes, stories, and action songs with props. No need to register.
- Chair Yoga for Seniors
Friday, Aug. 16, from 10:30-11:15 a.m.
This series of gentle classes is for folks ages 50 and up. No experience or equipment is required. Join in at Senior Projects of Ravena for this series of yoga classes taught by local instructor Kelley Curran of Well & Kell. There is no fee for this class. Registration is required at rcscommunitylibrary.org. Please provide an email address so the library can notify you in the event of any change to the schedule.
- Friends of the RCS Community Library Monthly Meeting.
Monday, Aug. 19, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
New members are always welcome. The Friends of the RCS Community Library, which is in the development process, welcomes eager participants with ideas about how to advocate for and support the library’s outreach. Monthly meetings are at the library on the third Monday of the month. No registration required.

- Wednesday Movie: ‘Irresistible’
Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 2-4 p.m.
The film “Irresistible” is a comedy about what happens when a small town becomes the main attraction for two rival political consultants. Top Democratic consultant (Steve Carell) sees an opportunity to win back voters in America’s heartland when a video of a passional farmer and retired Marine colonel (Chris Cooper) goes viral. After a long, hard day’s work as a farmhand, Gary persuades the farmer to run for mayor. However, when the Republican National Committee counters him by sending in his brilliant nemesis, Faith Brewster (Rose Byrne), Gary is more than primed to up his game, turning this local race into a hilarious game of tug and war. - Silent Book Club
Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
This non-traditional “book club” has no required reading and no book discussion. Instead, it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the company of others without the pressure of conversation. Simply bring a book that you’re reading (or have been meaning to read), settle down in one of the library’s comfy chairs and get ready for some uninterrupted reading while in the presence of others. Covered beverages are also welcome. No registration required.
- Storytime on a School Bus
Thursday, Aug. 22, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Just in time to help calm those first day of school jitters. Help acclimate your little one to their new commute by joining in for this one-of-a-kind storytime experience. There will be stories and songs related to school buses, and then the group will climb aboard an actual school bus to check it out. Thanks to the RCS Central School District for providing a school bus for this very special storytime. Registration is required at rcscommunitylibrary.org.
- Are You Prepared?
Thursday, Aug. 22, from 1-2 p.m.
The NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any disaster, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions. This training course will provide an introduction to responding to a natural or man-made disaster. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies. Registration is required at rcscommunitylibrary.
