- Saturday Fun for Families: Animals in Winter
Saturday, Jan. 4, from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Join in for the library’s Saturday Fun for Families monthly event. This month, participants will learn how animals adjust to the winter season. The group will read stories about hibernation and migration, build animal dens out of Play-Doh, and make a craft to take home. Registration is required at rcscommunitylibrary.org. Are you a beginning writer, or maybe working on the Great American Novel? Maybe you’re the short-story type? Prose fiction writers of all types and levels are invited to bring your notebooks, laptops or other writing implements and join in for an evening of writing together. The library will offer writing prompts, sprints, and quiet time for you to get ahead on your writing project, no matter where you are in the process. - Senior Cinema: ‘Twisters’
Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 2-5 p.m.
An update to the 1996 film “Twister,” which centers on a pair of storm chasers who risk their lives in an attempt to test an experimental weather alert system. Rated PG-13. For adults.
- After School Art Club
Thursday, Jan. 9, from 4-5 p.m.
The library will supply materials and ideas for kids to unwind and get creative after school. There is no specific project or goal, instead it’s an opportunity to gather and enjoy drawing and creating together in a relaxed setting. Registration is required at rcscommunitylibrary.org. For ages 9-13.
- HEAP Drop-In Application Assistance
Friday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Do you need help heating your home? Come find out if you are eligible for Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefits, which can help eligible New Yorkers heat their homes. If you are eligible, you may receive one regular HEAP benefit per program year and could also be eligible for emergency HEAP benefits if you are in danger of running out of fuel or having your utility service shut off. A representative from Cornell Cooperative Extension will be present and will meet with people individually on a first come-first serve basis. Applications will be available if you would like to complete an application on site. No registration is required. For adults.
- Stonehenge Wasn’t Built in a Day!
Saturday, Jan. 11, from 2-3 p.m.
You will have the opportunity to test out and build a model of Stonehenge after learning a little about the famous landmark. Participants will use the engineering process to build and test structures using various materials to construct it. Registration is required at rcscommunitylibrary.org. For ages 8-14.
