Douglas “Doug” L. Palmer, Sr., of Greenville Center, passed away peacefully at home on his 77th birthday, Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022.
He was born in Catskill on Sept. 7, 1945, to his parents, the late Sheldon A. and Allie E. Palmer. He was a lifelong resident of Greenville Center. He attended Greenville Central School and started his working career at Sunny Hill Farms as a teenager before moving onto surveying and operating heavy equipment. He spent the last 46 years at Royal Metal Products.
He was a former member of the Greenville School Board and Freehold Fire Department. He enjoyed attending car shows, basketball games, music by the river and the town gazebo. He could always be seen at Cumberland Farms, getting his daily cup of coffee. He also enjoyed riding through the countryside, reminiscing with family and friends, and keeping a meticulous lawn.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Dale Palmer; his sister, Darlene Stickle; and his nephew, Scott Zibura.
Doug is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Vincenzo) Abate; his son, Douglas (Easter) Palmer, Jr.; lifelong friend and former spouse, Geraldine Carey; grandchildren, Izabella “Bella” and Vito Abate; nephews, Frank (Denise) Zibura and family, Bryan (Amy) Zibura and family; niece, Lisa (Todd) Koehler and family; brother-in-law, Danny Carey; sister-in-law, Noreen Carey; and many other nieces and nephews.
As per his wishes, Doug has been privately cremated. Memorial visitation was held on Monday, Sept. 12, from 4-7 p.m. at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Greenville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 332, Greenville, NY 12083; the Greenville American Legion Post 291, P.O.
