HUDSON–Francis Fabiano, 83, of Greenport, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Community Hospice at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born April 11, 1926 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Antonio and Margaret (Guido) Fabiano.
He was a graduate of Hudson High School, Class of 1944 – last “High Muckety Muck”, and the reunion chairman every five years since 1969.
Mr. Fabiano served as a FC3C computer operator in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Los Angeles from 1944 – 1946. He was stationed in Hong Kong and Shanghais for seven months.
He was a carpenter with A. Fabiano & Sons for 17 years and a self-employed contractor for 29 years.
He was the Greenport Building Inspector for 4 years; a Boy Scout and Scout Master with Troop 105 and 107 for 16 years; a member of the Elks Lodge 787 for 36 years; served on the Bingo Committee for 35 years and was chairman of the Elks Veterans Committee for 14 years; a member of the Greenport Memorial VFW Post 6142 and Commander for 27 years; All State Commander 4 times, and a volunteer at the Amtrac Concession for 4 years.
Mr. Fabiano is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sarah Ann (DuFour) Fabiano; three devoted children and their spouses, Francis D. and Judith Fabiano, David and Suzanne Fabiano, and Teresa Ann and Guy Rivenburgh; six loving grandchildren, Currey, Kyle, Adrienne and Nathan Fabiano and David and Adam Rivenburgh; one great-grandson, Austin J. Fabiano, and many nieces and nephews.
His sister Margaret Bame, and two brothers, Joseph A. and James V. Fabiano, died previously.
Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson.
Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
