Alfred “Sonny” McCagg Jr., enjoyed his work, camp, breakfasts with friends

W.GHENT–Alfred “Sonny” L. McCagg, Jr., 70, entered into eternal rest suddenly on Saturday, October 31, 2009.

Born August 21, 1939 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Alfred L. McCagg and Mary (Pearson) McCagg.

Mr. McCagg was well known to this area. He previously worked for the Taconic Telephone Company before becoming the owner and operator of Al McCagg, Jr. Excavation. He was presently employed by McCagg Excavating, Inc. and was president of the company.

He was a member of the Hook Boat Club, the Ghent Rod and Gun Club, and the West Ghent Cemetery Committee.

The family enjoyed having a summer home at the Hook Boat Club for several years.

Mr. McCagg enjoyed his work, his camp and sharing breakfast with his friends at local diners.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Bartholomew) McCagg of West Ghent; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael McCagg and Jamie and Johanna McCagg, all of West Ghent ; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (McCagg) Link and Robert Link of South Cairo; his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Linda McCagg of Stockport; four grandchildren, Austin and DerekMcCagg of West Ghent and Krystina and Samantha McCagg of Colonie, and several nieces and nephews.

His brother Robert McCagg died previously.

Visiting hours are 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Bates & AndersonRedmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the West Ghent Cemetery.
