VALATIE–Charles W. Malcolm, 84, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 at his home. Born September 29, 1925 in Yonkers, he was the son of the late Andrew and the late Mary ( Bradley) Malcolm.
Mr. Malcolm was a Merchant Marine serving in WWll. From 1949 to 1966 he was a poultry farmer in Valatie. He then was employed as a stationary fireman by Fort Orange Paper Company in Castleton for over 30 years. “Uncle Charlie,” as he was fondly known by all the children that he took care of over the years, assisted his wife Ruth in their day care business for many years. He was an avid reader, very interested in world history and a traveler of the world. Mr. Malcolm was a gardener who prided himself in sharing the fruits of his labors.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. ( Horton ) Malcolm of Valatie; four daughters, Nancy L. (Stephen) Hakes of Scotia, Barbara J. ( Philip ) Hakes of Valatie, Deborah A. Rytel of East Schodack, Cindy L. Zautner of Guilderland; a son, Andrew (Merry) Malcolm of Craryville; a brother, Andrew Malcolm of Henrietta; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, his brother Daniel C. Malcolm died previously.
Funeral services will be held at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Route 9, Valatie Wednesday at 11 a.m. Calling hours will take place on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
