Virginia Dick, Master Gardener judged at the County Fair

Virginia Dick, wife of the late George H. Dick, passed away at Barnwell Nursing & Rehab facility on October 10. A resident of Kinderhook since 1966, Mrs. Dick was born in Brooklyn to Olive and George Beebee on May 19, 1909. She attended schools in Brooklyn and worked as a secretary in New York City before her marriage.

She married George H. Dick on November 12, 1929 and resided in Woodhaven, Queens County, raising two sons who survive, Ronald B. (Judie) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Alan F. (Noreen) of Kinderhook. She was the proud grandmother of eight and great grandmother of 15. A sister, Olive and a brother, George, died previously. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. and Mrs. Dick settled in Kinderhook in 1966 to be close to family.  A member of the Kinderhook Reformed Church, Mrs. Dick led an active life during her years in Kinderhook.  She taught classes in crewel embroidery at her home for many years, teaching her craft to numbers of women. A member of the Kinderhook Garden Club, she was a Master Gardener, winning many ribbons for her flower arrangements. She was a judge of 4-H flower exhibits at the Columbia County Fair, which she enjoyed for a number of fair seasons.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October  14, at 11 a.m. at the Kinderhook Reformed Church with the Rev. Rudy Visser Officiating. Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery.  Calling hours will be Tuesday at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9 Valatie from 4 to 7 p.m.
